I hate to be this person, but I seriously have no idea where these good reviews are coming from. I've eaten at Bella Capri three times (I'll give any shop a few chances, everyone has off days) and have been consistently disappointed. Now, caveat here, I am a Philly native who, before moving to DE, lived in NJ and had access to ten pizza shops within five miles, all of them awesome. Here in DE, Bella Capri is the only convenient option near us. But I have ordered a cheesesteak from them... it was dry, rubbery, and almost cheeseless, with a roll that appeared slightly stale. Okay, I figured, this isn't Philly, so no more cheesesteaks. The garlic bread my husband ordered during our first time there could have been used as a hockey puck - it was just a sandwich roll cut in half and buttered with garlic powder, and toasted to be... extra well-done, I'd call it. Tonight, we ordered for the LAST time and received a stromboli with green peppers, mushrooms and onions. Upon taking a bite, I was punched in the mouth (and eyes) with raw, crunchy onions and peppers - the onions being strong enough to burn my eyes (and I cook with onions almost daily, they don't bother me generally, but these were some truly acrid onions!) The mushrooms were clearly from a can, and were clammy despite the stromboli itself being piping hot. I've never bitten into anything that gross or poorly-made in my life. I also ordered a serving of calamari fritti that arrived cold and half-filled... the calamari is delicious, but ten or twelve quarter-size, clammy rings is not worth 8 bucks. (We were refunded in full for this order, because it was simply not acceptable or edible.) And overall - for what I see to be very "meh" food - the prices are outrageous compared to the pizza shops I've been to in the Philadelphia area and in NJ. It's a shame, because like I said, I gave them three tries! Really wanted to like them, but sorry, Bella Capri... I'll make my own stromboli...
Read moreWow. OK. Read the reviews and came here with the expectation of getting an 'authentic' NY style Italian meal. Where to start. The 'fried' calamari. It was coated in something, but barely warm, not browned, not fried. It came in about 3 minutes, tough, tasteless, rubbery...you get the picture. Sauce? My wife didn't taste it, but there was some sort of spice that I couldn't quite place, but it was NOT like any homemade Italian sauce I've ever had, and my life is chock full of chef-grade Italian Moms, Grandmas, Sisters, Cousins & Wife, all of whom could open a world class place. Anyway. I had Veal Parm. The Good part: It was a real veal cutlet, not a patty. That's a major plus around here I'm finding. It was covered in real mozzerella and not provolone as many DE Italian Restaurants use. But, it was tough, and there was that sauce again. My wife had chicken marsala. Yikes. Chicken was not floured or breaded or fried. It was a white, possibly boiled chicken cutlet. The marsala sauce was thin (because the cutlet was not floured or breaded, which helps to thicken the sauce) and it had no flavor whatsoever. My wife ate about 1/3 the dish and just gave up. The Calamari was pretty much untouched. Let's say picked at. I did finish my Veal parm. I was pretty...
Read moreWhile staying in Georgetown I ordered from this place for delivery. Apparently the pizza was dropped on the way and the cheese slid off in the box. Delivery guy didn't say a word. Called the restaurant and the older gentleman who I spoke to actually yelled at me and acted like I was lying about it. I wasn't asking for a refund or a new pizza I was just calling to let them know it happened. While the food was pretty good (what was left of the pizza and my wife had fettuccine alfredo) I would not recommend this place because of the rude guy who I think is a manager or possibly the owner. Maybe they get people trying to get free stuff off them and that's why he acted like such a douche but I had a legitimate issue and he handled it totally inappropriately. Missed out on a lot of money after this too because I was with a group of people here for over a month (work) and we all decided to avoid it after that. Since it was really convenient to the hotel we stayed at it would have been a regular place for us to eat. Oh well. Taste doesn't trump...
