If this community is anything like they are the weekend of the Greek Festival, this is an amazing church. Everyone is friendly and welcoming. One of the congregation gave a talk about the Greek Orthodox church and summed up about 2000 years of church history in 15 minutes and did a great job of it. They had volunteers in the church and outside of it to answer questions. The food is amazing, the dancing and programs are entertaining - all that - but the selling point is the way that they make thousands of people feel welcome every year.
I saw a little girl dancing to one of the Greek bands and an older lady, from another table and obviously not related, started clapping her hands and encouraging the girl to dance. It was a sweet moment to see.
Anyway, if the community is like this, it's not a traditional "look down your nose at the new person"-type place. No worries if you don't speak Greek, the guy who gave the tour said that they have cards in the pews so that you...
Read moreSo, this review is really just for the Atlanta Greek Festival. I can’t really review the cathedral fairly, but I can say that we love the festival!
The food is so amazing, and I’m glad that they were still able to do the drive through with COVID. We wanted to make sure we showed our support, and kept the tradition going despite these crazy times.
The wait was long, but was to be expected, and definitely worth it! We ordered two gyros, three chicken kabobs with rice and pitas, potatoes, a Greek salad, and spanakopita. Everything is so delicious! It’s all we’ve been eating for the past two days, and we will be sad when it’s gone.
Thank you for this great festival! We love you!
Also, I forgot to take pictures until after we had already started...
Read moreOpa! What a neat festival to learn more about Greek cuisine and culture. I love the Greek dancing they feature at the main stage. There is lots of energy! It is a very organized festival with several activities to partake in. Many food options and the lines move relatively quickly. My must have items include frappes and the baklava sundae! I highly recommend doing the church tour as well. The guide was super informative and it was fascinating. There are two marketplaces to choose from: one for gifts/clothing/trinkets and another for food! I recommend taking some baklava to go! Parking can be tricky there so you can either pay to park near/onsite (go early!) or there is a shuttle that will drop you off right at the...
