My mom and I were there during their posted business hours. There were no other cars in the lot and the place seemed deserted. I attempted to open the doors of the visitors' center and all were locked. I rang the door bell, to no answer. I then called the number on the sign and left a voicemail about my situation. After about 15-20 minutes of meandering around the property and peering inside the historic house, through the windows, we left. I received a call, about 30 minutes after my original call to the historic society, which I missed and the caller left a voicemail. The caller left a voicemail explaining there had been a staff misunderstandings and a staff member can be at the house in about 5 minutes. Unfortunately, I had to call the staff member back to explain we were following an itinerary and were unable to back track.

This had been my 4th time to Moundsville and I have not been able to visit the homestead because of their limited hours or my itinerary. I will not be back to Moundsville for years, if at all. Hopefully, this house will still be standing when/if I return.
Thank you to the other reviewers posting pictures so I could see the inside of the house.
EDIT: I edited the 3 stars to 5 stars because of the positive response...

Highly recommended visit, especially for those who love and appreciate history. There is also an Indian mound behind the house...I've lived in the area all my life and was totally unaware of Moundsville's second, smaller, less famous...
