B.M. Spurr School of Practical Nursing — Local services in Glen Dale

I have had a couple issues but there are two things that have push me over the edge. Very upset with Their lack of knowledge when it comes to financial aid And grantsFor students living in Ohio. If it wasn’t for me doing my own research I wouldn’t have had any help to pay for this school. I went to Ohio means jobs, And they were able to give me a grant to help with the second half of the year. I feel that as a College of nursing they should have someone Knowledgeable To assist with financial aid. Not to mention considering the grant money is guaranteed payment they should have been more efficient. More recently as a graduate, I am Overly disappointed in their inability to assist in the appropriate delivery of documents that are necessary to obtain your temporary practice permit, NCLEX, and licensure in the state of Pennsylvania. Being a Nursing school in the tri-state area I feel they should’ve been knowledgeable on how to help students in each one of these states. After informing them of the process For application in Pennsylvania they had no idea what I was talking about. I had to go online and find the necessary form myself and then beg them to sign and send it out appropriately. After requesting my transcripts to be sent along with this Additional paperwork they failed to send an appropriate transcript. The transcript did not say that I had received a diploma. So the Pennsylvania Board of nursing Is further delaying my application for a temporary practice permit. Without this temporary permit I am unable to start a job at Upmc hospital and I could potentially lose this job because of the delay caused by an incomplete transcript. I do understand that people are humanAnd mistakes can be made. But again you are a school of nursing in the tri-state area! You invite students from Ohio charge them more for tuition and then don’t know how to appropriately help them with financial aid. Maybe it’s just me but I also expect a nursing school that has been running for nearly a century to be proficient in developing a transcript containing all the information necessary for graduate LPN to get their license...

I have nothing bad at all to say about this school. The Director of the program was new to the position and was amazing at her job. All 3 instructors were awesome, I enjoyed this program thoroughly.

As for the negative review left about financial aid by another reviewer. We were told coming into the program that there were issues with the financial aid due to a change in the school name. It was made perfectly clear that we may not even receive financial aid. I received VA benefits and the school was on point with ensuring that I received them. For other students I know for a fact that the school went above and beyond to help with payment plans to ensure no student was put in a tight position. Setting all of this aside the overall cost of the program wasn’t near as high as many comparable programs.

All expectations were made clear throughout the program and all instructors were more than willing to do anything they could do to help. As long as you come to this program and act as an adult, show up, study and truly want to be a nurse you will do great. The fact that this program is all within a hospital adds the the experience. Many of the opportunities that we had were only available because of being a part of the hospital.

While in the program you can’t wait to graduate but once the reality of graduation hits you is is a nit sad. I made several friends during the time in this school and miss most of my classmates. I will always recommend anyone considering going into nursing to...

Curriculum is very good. Prepared me very well for my NCLEX, proud to say that I passed on my first try with th minimum amount of questions. Also prepared me well for working in the real world. I’ve been working at two separate places and I’ve been able to deal with anything and everything that’s been thrown at me thanks to the amazing clinical aspect of this school.
