This is a nice quiet 100 site campground with grassy sites. It's a campground accommodating rustic camping and is pet friendly. This is a no frills camp: no internet at the sites, no pool, no playground, lake is a short distance away, no paved lots. They also have a restaurant and bar with great food and live music. Each site has electric, a picnic table and fire pit. Some sites have water for the RVs, but no sewer. The bathhouse is kept clean several times a day. Staff is very nice and accommodating. The owner, Brian, is nice and understanding. He has several rental campers, including bunkhouses for families, fully stocked, so all you mainly need are your clothes and personal items. No pets are allowed in the rental campers. They have a few large sites, dry camping only with no hookups, for a large group of campers. The sites are not paved. Some of the sites are narrow and small, which is perfect for tents. There are a few that are wider. They still can accommodate toy haulers and motor homes here. They also provide FREE overflow parking for your 4x4s, cargo trailers, flatbeds, extra vehicles, etc. The overflow parking is at the camp entrance and very close to campsites for walking. Val-du is a little over 1 mile from Silver Lake. Ideal location just away from the busy down town, but close enough to ride bikes or walk, if you want. There is a laundry room open 24 hours. The small store supplies some laundry soaps, is well stocked with plenty of Silver Lake memorabilia to take home or give family and friends. They also sell some camping supplies like tents, lawn chairs, ice, firewood, pop, candy, fire starter, lighter fluid, smores makings, including the sticks to put them on over your fire. They sell hoodies, sweaters, hats, t-shirts, flip-flops, blankets, towels, tarps, ice cream, water, some games, cups, kozies, magnets, and so much more. This is not a camp for rowdy drunks to stay up all night by the fire and cause trouble for others. There are rules to abide by. The entire Oceana County Silver Lake area has an ordinance for quiet time after 11:00pm at all camps. These rules apply to everyone, including the Dunes. I've read the bad reviews on here blaming this park for their rules. Their rules are consistent with all the other campgrounds I've stayed at. I've never stayed at a park that allowed drunks and unruly campers to stay up all night being so rude to others! We love this camp and will stay here again. We tell all our friends and family to...
Read moreI was really disappointed. The woman I talked to on the phone was so sweet and she quoted me $40 for 4 adults at the site and any additional adults would be $10 more no big right? Wrong! We get there and have to deal with a woman who clearly hates her job and not the person I talked to on the phone and she says it's $60 or $20 per person (we ended up only 3 people) I told her what I was told over the phone she snapped and said she doesn't know what idiot told me that but she's been there for 9 years and blah blah idk I toned the rest out. So we pay the $60. We brought our boat we were planning on driving to the site emptying out the boat and then parking in overflow we were not allowed to bring our boat in the campground so we unhooked and threw all the stuff on the tailgate. We got back before our 11 pm curfew because apparently we're children then we walked up to the bar. Came back and the nice security guard (or so we thought) offered to start our fire for us yah! Well that wasn't working so when he left we went to the neighbor site fire. He was obviously hurt by us not staying at our campsite and constantly came back to "check up on us" then he "banned" us to our site because my sister had a beer in her hand (she's 20 and we weren't being disruptive) we stayed at the neighbors fire and he came back again and told us we had to go to sleep in our tent 😂😂😂😂 uhm not going to happen I'll go to bed when I'm damn good and ready thank you. He continued to "check on us" and threaten us with having to go to bed until about 2:30 am. This campground is...
Read moreWe just recently camped here. We were late coming in on Friday night, I called to let them know we would be late getting in to ensure we were still coming. I was asked to hold while she checked in another guest, sure no problem. 45 min later and about 6 miles from the campground I just hung up. We checked in and got set up. 11pm staff came by to say it was quiet time, no biggie we were just talking around the camp fire. At 1am we were told lights out, and that we needed to go into our tent because it was night night time. Saturday night we left the dunes late, I called to ask if we could go grab a bite to eat at their resturant and bar and still drive to our site. I was told if we were after 11 we needed to park in overflow parking and walk back, which was a good at least mile into the campground. Do these people know how much money they are losing by making people walk back, we decided not too after a long hard day in the sun we were hungry and tired. Needless to say we won't be back! I'm old enough to know when I need to go night night time, and if I'm hungry I should still be able to...
