Was asked to pick up my dog less than 2 hours after drop-off. Apparently he "was not leaving other dogs alone." Didn't start a fight or anything, just sniffing them or whatever, like dogs do. And they were afraid it would escalate.
He's been there many times before without issue. But it has been a while, and I noticed when I dropped him off there was a bunch of new staff. Because of this, I think it's more likely the staff are the problem.
We also foster dogs, so he is around new dogs all the time. And yes, he does what they described, not questioning that. But IMO that shouldn't be something a team of dog trainers can't handle. Gotta try to problem solve before you throw up your hands and say "I can't."
Do have to say, they didn't charge me for the day at least, so I appreciate that! But would suggest better trained staff is necessary for this business to thrive.
Edit: response to owner: yes, you can only go off of what you saw obviously. Please read my review again, a little more carefully. I'm not disagreeing with what you say he did. I'm saying that you should be able to handle that.
You can say your team is qualified all you want. The evidence suggests otherwise. And evidence is greater than your opinion. Your unwillingness to see my side, or comprehend what I'm saying, does not redeem your business.
There are plenty of other daycares that take him no problem. So if you assert that you have a strong team with robust training, I ask again: why can you not handle a dog sniffing other dogs? That seems pretty basic to me.
Anyone reading this, please note: I have given my email and phone number to this business, and asked them to contact me to discuss. So far they...
Read moreI cannot stress enough how happy I am with my experience at Dogtopia Golden Valley. The initial tour was wonderful and everything was explained to me and laid out very nicely, including pricing. The first day that my dog Gigi went to Dogtopia she got a little report card after which I really appreciated! Gigi goes once a week and it’s so much fun to be able to watch her on camera. The staff is extremely friendly and very welcoming. I feel great leaving her there and know that she’s always going to have a good time and be tired out at the end of the day! They also have add on services which saves me a lot of time as I’m not running all over town to get her groomed or a bath. Every so often they offer special days where they have special events for the dogs. The most recent being Mother’s Day, where I was able to add a little Mother’s Day present that Gigi ‘made’ for me. It was a little dish towel that had Gigis footprints on it (which I now proudly have displayed in my kitchen!). Really fantastic facility and excellent people. The other thing that really surprised me is that when I bring Gigi home, she actually doesn’t smell like “dog”, which is surprising because she spent a whole day around many dogs! They really have it figured out here and I highly recommend Dogtopia! Picture below is of my girl on her first day there which was sent to me by the staff and greatly...
Read moreAs someone in the veterinary profession, I have always been extremely hesitant to take any of my dogs to a daycare facility. I’ve seen many dogs come in through ER for severe injuries that occurred at daycare and it always made me so nervous. My husband finally convinced me to give it a try with our new Husky puppy and I am so grateful that we did. Dogtopia in Golden Valley is such a phenomenal place and I am so thrilled that we found it. The staff is so friendly and they truly care about all of their dogs. They know them all by name, they know their owners, and genuinely seem to love their job. They have a true understanding of canine behavior and it shows. We pull up the cameras at work so we can all watch the dogs having the best days of their lives and I genuinely have yet to see any sort of true fight break out. They do a great job at intervening when necessary and encouraging dogs to take breaks if they are getting a little too rough (including my own troublemaker!). They avoid having any toys or treats available so as to avoid resource guarding which was a huge win for me (also avoids foreign bodies :)) We’ve been bringing our girl here for over a year now and have been absolutely blown away by their care of our kiddo. I would totally recommend this location to anyone looking for doggy daycare...
