Enjoyed the vegan brat, fries, and beer, but the service was difficult when asking which items on the menu were vegan. The vegan brat is clearly labeled, but nothing else on their menu tells you what other items, toppings, or sauces are vegan.
I asked the person behind the counter when I was ordering if the fried pickles were vegan and they just said, "I don't know, the breading probably isn't". I then asked which toppings for the brat were vegan and she didn't know that either. I asked if she could find out which ones were vegan and she just kind of shrugged and stared at me and said the kitchen staff probably wouldn't know either. Like... you HAVE to know what's in your food for allergy reasons so they would surely know. It was extremely difficult to figure out if something was vegan or not.
There was even another person behind the counter who came over and I asked them, but they were equally unhelpful. Eventually the first person went to the back and confirmed that the Korean slaw was vegan but didn't ask about any of the others. The staff was extremely unhelpful, and it almost made me want to walk out. This is something they should know about at the bare minimum for allergy reasons (dairy, eggs, etc.). I didn't even bother asking about the dipping sauces for the fries.
It would be great if the menu could be updated to mark what is vegan or at the bare minimum have staff who are educated on it or who are willing to go back to the...
Read moreI love New Bohemia food and drinks are great. However at this location they always has trouble with staffing. I tried going on my lunch break many times and they always seem to be under staffed which I try to be the most understanding I have waited for about 25 before to even get my orders in which I do since the person that is usually working is very nice. Today 10/14 once I found out only one person was there I asked for my order to be Togo right before I even ordered which the lady that was working understood and acknowledged it I tip as usual but once my order came she did not bring it in a Togo box which was fine with me I could of just boxed it myself if she would if apologize or just said oops I didn’t hear you or something that your suppose to do once you make a mistake instead she said “you didn’t say that (ugh)” and walked away with an attitude as I was saying no worries I can box it up. She came back threw the bag back at the table didn’t say nothing and walked away. I understand she is stressed since she was the only person working but is not a way to treat a paying customer no matter how stressed you are because if she did this to me I can’t imagine how many more customers this happen to today. Very bad experience in general food was great but service...
Read moreIs that a brat in your pocket, or are you just happy to be at New Bohemia? They gots brats and beer...lots of craft beers from around the region and the nation, as well as craft brats from, well, around. Like the Alligator brat, Cajun brat, Bat brat (okay, maybe not a Bat brat). I like the Giant Pretzel: feeds 3, or 1 hungry German. Layout is beerhall-style with a fair number of seats at the bar. They have a few TVs for sports fans and the requisite board games for young and old alike. Service is generally okay and this particular New Bohemia has ample parking in the strip mall lot. Prices for beer and food are about what you'd expect at the ballpark--$$—with beers averaging $7 and brats around $10. I doubt this is the place for vegetarians, vegans or those with gluten sensitivities, but none of those is my primary focus when I go there. Kids allowed, but not pup-friendly. And...
