Came in on a Friday evening at around 7:20 pm, it's now 7:44 pm and we haven't been served by anyone lol. We are sitting right in front of the kitchen entrance and I can see the servers staring at my table. The hostess that sat us, there was a water cup with a straw already there lol. The table wasn't empty when she had sat us. It's my first visit here and I understand being short staffed and being busy, but to not be acknowledged the entire time we are seated is not very acceptable. I don't know if I can recommend coming here on a busy weekend night.
20 mins in, and my friend flags down the waitress to let her know we wanted to order. She looks at us, grabs the water from 20+ mins ago, says this isn’t yours right? We said no, then we just got water. They were so busy we had water in plastic throw away cups. We saw several other booths not being cleared away for over an hour.
It’s probably around 7:50 ish almost 8:00 and she gives us a receipt to write down what we wanted to order. It took about 20 mins for my takoyaki to come. Another 10 mins for my sushi and some of my friends. Then another 15 for the rest of our sushi and they had forgotten to bring the miso soup my friend wanted. At this point we were almost at the restaurant for two hours and we just didn’t want to wait anymore.
Don’t get me wrong. I completely understand how it feels to be short staffed in such a busy environment but please just take the time to let us know. No one did that at all. The only person to mention anything, was a guy who delivered our sushi and said sorry for the wait guys. And that was it. I don’t necessarily blame the waitress. It’s out of her control and she was very nice. It must’ve been an off night but I can’t say this experience was a good first time.
The food is okay, slight better than Akame/Osaka sushi sister chains.
Not sure if I’m willing to come here again tbh, the bill was $44 after tax and that’s really expensive for us to...
Read moreHere’s a story. For 5 different appetizers, 4 rolls, and 2 different desserts (didn’t get two other items), I’ve never had to wait the entirety of 3 hours before to receive all of our food and then get our checks. Majority of those items were from the FIRST order. This was for two people. Server was nice but new and unorganized. Unsure if she was getting the help she needs to serve. Needs more training. Not once did she ask if we received all of our items and if everything is tasting ok. The server even came up to us and asked if we wanted to order more when we didn’t even get most of our stuff yet and then left without clearing our empty dishes. At typical AYCE restaurants, I see that we usually get all of our first order within 45 min after being seated. Had to ask for multiple items, multiple times. Never received sauce trays. I actually grabbed them myself off their table by the kitchen. Was never offered wasabi or ginger. Weird we had to ask for these in a sushi restaurant.
When we ordered the 2nd time after 1.5 hours, we got hesitant and only ordered two more rolls. Probably waited another 30 min to only receive ONE of them before deciding to not order anymore due to lack of efficiency and accuracy. We had to cancel our plans afterward because dinner took too long. We were being patient but got annoyed after 2 hours. We actually asked another staff for our checks because the server hadnt checked up on us for a while. Guess what? That never came out. Eventually the server came back to us and we decided to order desserts anyways since our plans got cancelled. We tipped a few bucks to be nice but definitely not for the service.
You can definitely bet it’ll be our first time and last time here. The food was decent but not worth...
Read moreOur second time here and we can't express how impressed we are with the whole experience especially considering the price.
Most often a great way to let you know the food/atmosphere/service are going to be sub-par at a Japanese restaurant is to say "all you can eat". Perhaps that's what we expected when we opened the doors to Nogoya Sushi.
Absolutely wrong about everything. Upon entry you're visually greeted with a nice selection of mochi doughnuts and smiling, welcoming staff. As the hostess took us to our table, we immediately noticed how everything appeared so clean and the air, smelling fresh with hints of soy and ginger. Our table was sturdy and seating is comfortable.
The menu, wrapped in leather, had so many options and we quickly learned, other than the mochi doughnuts, select anything you want, as much as you want, it's all included. In our first experience, we asked the price, at the time of this writing, $20.95 for ayce lunch!
Now, we thought, well, 2 out of 3, for that price, the food is not going to be good. WRONG AGAIN!
We ordered a large selection of dishes including gyoza, cream cheese wanton, salmon sushi, several sushi rolls and even a handroll. That was the first round. The food, which is prepared in an open kitchen, comes so fast. The servers are over the top friendly. The food is so good. Our friends who have been to Japan on multiple occasions and are "sushi snobs" raved over the quality of the ingredients and asked if they could stay for the week.
I highly recommend this place, it's my go to for sushi now in the twin cities. By the way, the mochi doughnuts, although not included in the ayce,...
