Mackay-Jaycees Park — Attraction in Grand Rapids

The park amenities are great. There's well maintained baseball, soccer, and volleyball fields. Tennis courts are kept up too. The main problem with this park is the sketchy people. Last weekend there was definitely a person living in a white truck parked near the bathrooms, and if you venture into the woods around the park, you'll find lots of questionable subjects. GRPD is through the park it seems every hour or two, so they're aware, but it isn't the park atop my list for a kid's...

Great park, and the city has been improving it lately. Great soccer fields, sand volleyball, playground and trails. The bathroom house could use a remodel. That is due more to how it gets treated than any effort to keep it up (like your dad says "this is why we can't have nice things"). Parking can be tight but please respect the parking signs. It's only a short walk from either lot to your game and you're there to get some fresh air, right? Just...

We took a walk through the attached cemetery and then played on the playground. Both were a little run down and sad, though all the trees are very nice. The playground is a little overgrown and old and fading, but it's almost charming. We had it to ourselves most of the time we were there.
