Atlantic Fish Market — Restaurant in Grand Rapids

Wow, this place is fantastic. Pretty much everything on the menu is deep fried so just prepare yourself in advance for some grease, but trust me they do a great job preparing the food, it's not absolutely saturated like a poor quality restaurant might do. You know what you're getting and you know it's going to be good. I order their battered fried chicken wings, extra crispy, a little too often to admit, and the crack seasoning is appropriately named, it's a white powder with salty and umami flavor and a hint of vinegar. It's addictive! I just tried their garlic vinegar dipping sauce and it goes great with the crack seasoning. The chicken wings always arrive perfectly cooked, super tender, super crispy on the outside, so soft on the inside. I have made a lot of wings in my day, I've deep fried them, smoked them, baked them, pan seared them. This is now my favorite way to do wings. I've also ordered their fried fish for delivery, but by the time it got here the moisture from the fish ruined the crispiness of the batter, so I would only recommend the fried fish if you eat it right after it's cooked and the only way to do that is to go there in person, which I have yet to do. Their Mac and cheese is pretty darn good, it has a subtle hint of rosemary and a few other herbs I can't quite place. It's a step up from ordinary Mac and cheese. Their mashed potatoes and gravy were also a win for me, but I wished there was even more gravy and less mashed potatoes. That's just me. They serve it all by weight so you get exactly the same amount every time and the portions are large. I wasn't thrilled with their chili cheese fries, the cheese was a little weak in flavor and the fries were soggy by the time they were delivered, which honestly was my bad because offering chili cheese fries for delivery was not a smart idea. But even then, the chili was also just ok, nothing spectacular like their other food. They do crinkle cut fries which I think is also just ok, I like shoelace or curly or sweet potato, the crinkle cut just feel a little too mushy and not enough crunch. Before Covid-19 hit this was the Best Fish Place in Town. Now it's one of the worst. I went there last night to order I ordered a pound of Catfish Steaks and a 3/4th pound of fries. I was talking with one young lady that works there and I explained that my husband and myself have high blood pressure. I told her that we are on a low salt diet and I ask about the different seasoning they offered. She gave me the a list of what they offered. I took her suggestion. I had to wait 15 min to pickup the food which was fine. I encountered this other young lady who passed me off royally. She asked me why I stopped ordering from them and I told her that the food was very salty the last time I ordered. She said well we have over 18 secret ingredients in our seasoning. Like really? That still doesn't explain why it's salty. I then told her this and she repeated we have 18 special seasonings. I said OK what ever. I then told her that they should let ppl know that they use salt in their seasoning some ppl can't have a lot of salt but we still like to eat out. It had been years since I’ve visited the restaurant because I live on the other side of town and it’s not often I’m on the SE side. Today I wanted to have takeout for lunch to bring home to my family, I ordered about $43 worth of food which would’ve been okay BUT I had received an email that my order would be ready at a certain time so after waiting 25 minutes to receive the text that the order was ready in which I never received I decided to pull around. The person at the window asked for my order number and after that’s when I got the text lol smh! So I leave, get home anxious to dive in and eat I began to open up packages. Catfish nuggets good but had a strange sweet taste, catfish steaks TERRIBLE too salty and why would you fry the fins and put it in the box and they were small as the palm of my hand and skimpy.
