Constructed in 1813 and at the time the largest single-span stone arch bridge in the US, the bridge spans the casselman river. Once a stage coach route, now you can walk where Washington crossed, and marvel at the beautiful design reflecting in the clear water below. If you are into fly-fishing, birding, having a picnic or visiting artisans in the Spruce Village at Penn Alps, bring the kids and spend a couple of hours. There is a few parking spaces to the west of the bridge with handicap access or more parking at Penn Alps...

A really nice local park, the perfect place for a picnic or to take a break from the highway. There are picnic tables and grill sites all with a view of the Historic bridge and some with a view of the river. Plenty of space for kids to run around and it's an easy walk over the bridge to the nearby artisan village. Note there is no playground, and the restroom is located in the parking lot near the wheelchair accessible picnic area (which means an uphill walk from any other...

This bridge is located about 1/2 hour’s drive from Cumberland. It’s small town in Garrett County, MD. My wife and I picked up a brochure from the rest area and information Center. We both like small towns and historic places. The picture of the bridge attracted us to force there. Unfortunately the weather was not that good. So the historical part satisfies us. The small town part was nothing peculiar. I have to say it is still a pretty stone bridge....

Great spot for a walk. It’s obviously a little dead because of covid. A lot of stores weren’t open and I saw a sign that they had 100 mph winds recently that caused some damage. This place looks like it would be a great spot post-covid to spend some time, eat, buy some artisan soap, walk, etc. The river area behind the buildings near that large field smells like poop. Rename it The Poo Bridge...lol

Standing upon the original Casselman River Bridge, looking South, one can see it's current surface and parapet wall as well as the 1930's truss bridge (currently carrying Alt US 40) as well as the 1970's I-68 structure in the distance. This beautiful view represents 200 years of publicly funded transportation through one of the most beautiful parts of Maryland.
