Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth, under this pavilion, a giant watermelon, conceived in sweetness, and dedicated to the proposition that all men shall lay eyes upon the great large watermelon.
On this day, me and several passengers paid our deepest respect and admiration to this treasured American landmark. I’ve been to the Statue of Liberty, White House, St. Louis Arch, and across the Great Plains to the San Francisco Bridge. Methought these were some of the finest architectural feats of our time. And as great as they are, they pale in comparison to the Largest Watermelon of Green River, Utah.
I arrived at sunrise to see this of all greatest American landmarks, and could not pull myself away. I did not eat. I did not drink. I did not need to, this watermelon filled my soul without even having to indulge in one bite.
As I left this site and embarked home, my heart did not. I left weeping tears of joy and sadness, not knowing when I would see my dear sweet lady watermelon again. Whenst I returned home to my bed, I could not sleep. Deep into the dark night, reflecting upon this once in a lifetime experience - I penned this poem.
“Near a river of green, a marvel stands, A watermelon grand and vast. Its size a wonder, a sight so grand, In awe, we gaze, our hearts steadfast.
A juicy slice, a sweet delight, A gift of summer's purest bliss. In its presence, tears take flight, Joyous we weep, in awe of this.”
I close with an in invitation to all Americans within the sound of my voice. If one thing will bring this country together during these polarizing and perilous times, it is this iconic American landmark. I propose on July 4, 2024 that we gather here and start a revolution. A new age. An age of sweet refreshment. Let us put away divisive politics and choose a better way. The way of the...

One star off because of misnomer, one may presume it would be the world's largest whole Watermelon but this in fact appears to be the world's largest Watermelon slice. Still stunning, splendid, serendipitously located.
(Also, there is water feature in the same parking lot, with a bronze statue. We were gravely disappointed - heartbroken, even - that there was no informational plaque to tell us who the individual represented by the statue was. Truly tragic, a missed opportunity the town should remedy at its earliest...
Read moreLadies and gentleman, clear your bucket lists and prepare yourself for awesome. The Great Watermelon of Green River is not really an object but the unique, transcendental and - indeed - very confusing experience. This is my second visit to this glorious location and not only hasn't the spell of The Great Watermelon faded away, but it was enchanced by its recent renovation. Undeniably great and magnificent, The Great Watermelon of Green River is the ultimate roadside attraction west of the Rockies and a must stop on I-70.
