When my family arrived at the restaurant there were two customers at the front desk holding menus and placing a long order with the staff member at the desk. The sign next to the desk said wait to be seated, so I waited... A long time. So long that several other parties arrived until we filled the entire entry. The staff at the desk mouthed the word sorry to me while he waited on these two customers to finish thinking through everything they wanted, while placing their order. The person behind me in line tapped my shoulder and asked what I was doing here (placing an order or waiting to be seated) and said he was confused about why we hadn't been seated or even spoken to yet. He then asked the staff member receiving the order if we had to wait to be seated. The staff member replied yes, then continued in patience with the two customers. After their order was complete, we were promptly seated. Our server got to us in an average amount of time from that point, but seemed cold and short with us. She often wouldn't even reply when we said something to her. Perhaps she was stressed, or something was on her mind. By the end of our meal she improved in her mood and communication with us. The food was excellent. Everybody liked what they ordered for the most part. I got fajitas (fantastic). My wife ordered a Southwest chicken sandwich (also fantastic). The kids had grilled cheese (average), cheeseburger (looked good, but my kid only ate half), and chicken strips (my kid ate one of two) with clam chowder (she said it was excellent, but only ate half the bowl). The restaurant is right next to Green River and the sunset on the river was beautiful to look at. If have snapped a pic, but we weren't seated near the window. As far as I can tell this is one of the only decent options in town, so that said, I'm impressed the food was as good as it was. The service improved over the evening but things could have been handled better. The atmosphere was okay, and the view of the river was excellent. 3.5 stars...
Read moreLast Labor Day my family visited Capittol Reef National Park and Goblin Valley State Park. One of the small towns near both of those parks is Green River, UT which is along I-70. Green River has the appearance of a small town that basically serves as a truck stop for people passing through. Except for a couple of Mexican Restaurants, the only options for food are the fast food places inside of the gas stationns near the freeway exits. There's one exception that I'm excited to say was fantastic.
The Tamarisk restaurant is a restaurant that shares the parking lot with the River Terrace Green River hotel. I'm thinking that both are together but I'm not sure on that. The Tamarisk has a really large menu of mostly American Food with a descent number of desserts and a wine menu. It sits right on the bank of the Green River which gives you views while you eat.
My wife and I ordered the Navajo Taco. My son ordered the Navajo Burger which was a burger that uses the fry bread as the bun with Navajo Taco toppings, and my daughter got a half rack of ribs. Everything we ate was fantastic. The fry bread was substantial and fluffy. The ribs fell off the bone and the BBQ sauce was good with just a little spice. My daughter also ordered the parmesian potatoes wedges which were really good as well. The Tamarisk is a gem in this otherwise forgettable town.
So if you're driving across the dessert along I-70 and need to fuel your car and your body, stop in Green River and eat at the Tamarisk. It's definitely worth it.
Before I end this, I wanted to give a shout out to Green River as well. It's not much to look at but it was small and quiet. We were comfortable in the Holiday Inn Express there and we were able to see some fun things like a geyyser, a old mining ghost town, and a lot of petroglyphs in addition to the national and state parks. It was a cool and funky...
Read moreThis place is amazing. I ordered the fajita and Stephenie ordered the never a taco. Didn't have a hot taco is very fresh...I about half of it... I've also enjoyed the fajita a great deal. There were plenty of onions and green peppers with large chunks of chicken that had a great flavor. The salsa was unbelievable. It is one of my favorite restaurants salsas that I've tasted. They clearly go to a great deal of work for the salsa. It includes roasted peppers, chunky tomatoes and some cilantro among other things.
The pie is definitely worth eating. We had apple pie with a scoop of ice cream and the plate was emptied in moments between the two of us.
The service was spectacular. It seemed like it didn't matter what we asked, our server (Savannah) knew how to take care of it.
Logistically, they seem to have a solid ability to provide service to a lot of people. They have tables for four and six throughout the restaurant.
Everybody that arrives wants to be able to sit by the large picture windows that look out towards the mesas over the green river. Get here early!
We made it there a second time and I ordered a burrito and Stephenie ordered a steak fajita. The burrito was unbelievably good, but the steak fajita was probably a little better. Both great meals. As always the food is amazing!
I highly...
