Grove City Area Historical Society — Attraction in Grove City

If you travel within 55 miles of Grove City, stop by to visit this great gem of a museum. It hasn't been around all that long, but you couldn't tell with all the artifacts and information. This museum collects artifacts and anecdotes from the surrounding area. It is mostly (all?) from volunteer work - which makes it even more impressive.

The building is owned free and clear by the historical society. The building used to be a hotel.

The information is presented per room, with each room having a particular topic. The basement includes history of local coal industry, mail or postal service including a mail wagon, and Wendell August Forge history. I wish I could watch a video of how the mail wagon was brought and assembled in the basement.

The main floor includes a small lobby entrance from the original hotel, a local family genealogy bookcase, and a room of local artifacts, and a full period kitchen with motorized refrigerator.

Upstairs in the hotel rooms, each room serves a particular topic. Topics I recall include an preserved hotel room, local sports, local schools, women's clothing (mostly dresses), men's clothing (almost all military clothing), churches and religious services, local college.

Artifacts are numbered if you wanted to research the pedigree or otherwise learn more about the item.

My children ages 11 to 14 found it interesting. Again, I recommend this museum is worth at least an hour...

This was an enjoyable place to visit; rich with history and a lot of neat exhibits to explore in every room. It was also fascinating to learn how the building used to be an old hotel, and at least ONE of the rooms is preserved as it was back in the day, including the ORIGINAL community bathroom and tub! Long story short, I greatly enjoyed my visit here and would love to bring friends...
