Class of 2005, B.S. in Business Management with a second Major in Political Science and a Concentration in Pre-Law. I graduated from GCC in 2005 and then attended law school on an academic scholarship from which I graduated in 2008. I’m a licensed Attorney in Ohio (inactive) and the District of Columbia. I made very good friends at GCC, some of which I'm still in contact with today.
The Campus is beautiful though the weather was miserable. The food was painful, usually going in and often going out. The academics, by any measure, were excessive. The faculty were generally available during their office hours. It’s important to note that the GCC seemed to value Christian religious identity more highly than subject matter expertise, experience, and/or industry connections in the hiring of its full-time faculty. The adjunct faculty members were decidedly more qualified and enjoyable.
You’ll likely receive higher marks at other institutions. I would visit the Mail Hall for the release of the Fall Semester Midterm Grades to watch the freshmen open their grades and literally cry. Many students effectively lose their ability to transfer to decent schools because freshman grades are horrid. Indeed, I believe GCC would hemorrhage students if they had decent grades at the end of their freshman year.
GCC is a conservative place; most public high school students cannot comprehend just how conservative. Read the Crimson in its entirety. Social life was non-existent (ice-cream socials do not qualify, ever). Intercollegiate athletics were, and probably still are, a joke. Intramural athletic opportunities were abundant.
Name recognition outside of the Pittsburgh area is poor at best (sample areas include DC, MD, SC, CO, HI, NY and OH). I’ve ceased mentioning the school's name in conversation because people always ask if it’s a community college. GCC doesn’t “give” you the computer until you graduate. Computers are cheap; it’s a cheap gimmick and means by which GCC exerts control over the students.
Prior to my arrival on Campus I had never experienced open disdain for being Catholic. My Sister, Class of 99, also experienced anti-Catholic bias on Campus. If you’re Catholic I would probably avoid this place as there’s apparently still anger lingering from the Reformation.
If you are LGBT don’t go here. Don’t even apply. I’m an Ally and you absolutely do not need to put yourself through the hell that you will face on this Campus. The campus was “Authentically Christian” in that hypocrisy, hate, and fear permeated it like the fetid stench of a hog pond.
Would I attend GCC again? Absolutely not. (I didn’t transfer because doing so would have added at least one year to my education. I checked with multiple schools. In hindsight, and for current students, transferring would have been time and money well invested). GCC is the only college that I will not financially assist my children to attend. This Institution is highly abnormal and you can likely do better! I hope this information helps you with your decisions.
Good luck with your endeavors!

Read moreGrove City is an excellent college with a host of great faculty, and I'm not just saying that because it is the alma mater of many of my family members. That being said, in recent years, GCC has drifted from its conservative reputation by hiring more liberal (both religiously and politically) professors, hosting more liberal speakers at chapel, and succumbing to liberal practices (besides some questionable actions on the part of the college throughout this pandemic). The change is gentle but alarming to me, to my family, to long-time conservative faculty, and to many of the student body whose expectations of the institution have not matched their experiences. At the moment, the high quality of education persists, and because of that and for convenience, I will continue to pursue my degree at GCC. However, I'm afraid that if these shadows go unaltered, I will no longer be able to recommend the college in good conscience by the time I complete my degree. I pray that God preserves this bulwark of private, traditional liberal arts Christian education, and I pray that, if you are a student or a parent considering GCC, God give you guidance to see through the advertisements into the true nature of things and decide rightly in accordance with His...
Read moreAs a DAD of my incoming freshman student, the College Staff, students and personelle have been very helpful and supportive. Our son has a strong Christian Belief and foundation, yet I feel his next step into the "world" should not be taken lightly; that is why we spend a lot of time, effort on college visits before choosing GCC. Our 1st Son goes to Messiah College, which we LOVE as well in PA, yet GCC has a Football Team, a Great award winning Marching Band, and a good baseball program that my son looks forward to joining. When we visited the Campus, the beauty and the history of the buildings and the College Counselors really sold us on this Campus. Plus, one of the Highest and Best people we know and respect in the Education system here in MD is not only an Alumni but is in the GCC Hall of Fame for Basketball. He said nothing but Nice things about GCC. The Resonable Cost and the multiple Career options was one of our favorite parts of GCC and our son loved the on campus Bowling Alley and the multiple activites and Club Groups that were offered at GCC... Looking forward to our son Growing, Learning and Becoming a Man of Faith and...
