seriously need more community involvement , the place is just depressing ...secluded to mear occasional events , no real rec area for the thousands of children living in the area , and not very friendly family environment - plus they only invite things that cost more then the average local can afford Update. 2021 Jan It costs money to enter the fort. That costs does not cover much accept entrance The beef festable was a good boost but still not much improvement as far as year round activity areas etc.. Thank you for your reply an yes there's an amazing huge tree at the parking entrance but the play ground an tree area are blocked off during the winter with out much though to the long winter months for families who don't hibernate during the winter time. Saftey is a must of course an I'm not arguing on that. Im simply suggesting that the park be open year round with winter activities also. Not every thing available should be limited to specific dates and times..families should feel comfortable with being able to venture to this park any time of year to relax an let their kiddos play an explore. To note we were at the park for 1 hour an there was no passerby ears who entered at that time. There is no pull for youth at this park accept during festables. Which may be free to enter but are typical of the local carnival prices with vendors an to be able to play activities. I'm writing this review for all age groups an to cover basics, inside the fort there is much to see it is well organized am can take you back in time you can buy items being made an at the gift shop it's educational an fun but at a price to enter..wheelchair entry is available,of the fort an park sit within each other an there is plenty of parking churches local housing schools banks gas stations all near by the pics are not great others have better areas also the main tree has drastically delapitated over the years but is still very well maintained also the play area has had changes made to it for those who haven't been there in...

My family and I visited the fort on a fall afternoon. There were at least a half-dozen costumed interpreters who were very engaging and friendly. There were a number of structures that you could enter--and in several the second level was open to the public.
The gift shop included a number of knickknacks and Kentucky products for sale.
A number of shaded picnic tables are available.
The price also included access to the Lincoln Marriage Chapel and the Mansion Museum. The first is a structure protecting the cabin where Abraham Lincoln's parents were married in 1806. The later is a historic house full of artifacts from various periods of Kentucky history. Note that no photographs are permitted in the museum. Also in the off season the museum isn't open and admission is reduced to just include the fort.

Read moreThey have a pioneer cemetery on site which I thought was so interesting I actually walked through it while the people with me sat on the benches outside the cemetery and talked. They have parking near the fort and then also on a side street across from the fort, which ended up being were we parked cause I missed the street it told me to turn on. You could park at either both are free. The fort does have people dressed in period clothing working around the fort and one scared me. We went into one of the corner buildings and she had a loom set up and I didnt see her and she started talking scaring me. Also had a very nice lady making dolls who I talked to for a little bit and just enjoyed the fort. We pretty much had the place to ourselves since it was about 1pm...
