It's the Saturday of Derby Weekend....ok, it's Derby Day. As we usually do, we try to get out of town on Derby Weekend, which involved a trip to Shaker Village and then lunch, which leads us to La Fonda.
After a helluva hike at Shaker Village I was ready for food and La Fonda was close enough to take care of that issue.
La Fonda is located right on Main Street in downtown Harrodsburg and is very easy to find, with its burgundy (or is it maroon?) awning. Street parking was a breeze.
We were seated immediately and our server (whose name I don't recall) greeted us and brought our drinks right away while we perused the ENORMOUS menu.
The décor at La Fonda isn't overstated and it feels genuine to the atmosphere they're trying to create. Yes, it's colourful, but if you know anything about Mexican culture you know that it's VERY colourful.
I opted for the spicy pork chili verde, since I have a weakness for chili verde. The "spicy" part of that comes from adding in some chorizo, which is 1) BRILLIANT and B) awesome.
Not 10 minutes later our food arrived, hot and steamy. The spicy pork chili verde was OUT-FREAKING-STANDING. The addition of the chorizo gave it just the punch it needed.
Our server was spot-on with refills and getting more napkins (chili verde can get kinda sloppy if you use the tortilla eating method).

Quaint , clean , efficient , good variety, nice portions and prices , served quickly and correctly with the food being absolutely delicious! I am not a fan of Mexican food BUT this gem of a place IS the exception . The waiters worked together as a team and went out of the way to check and answer questions promptly . They each kept an eye on all the tables and your drinks were never too low. I was amazed we never had to wonder were our waiter had run off to, as others places the waiters always seem to vanish . Not here! Any employee was there on the spot as soon as you started to begin to look. True team work in providing a great service . Each one had a genuine smile and eager to accommodate . 1-30-2020 Went to LaFondas for dinner with my wife and grandkids. Ordered our food then proceeded to wait about 45 minutes for it to arrive. (Unacceptable considering that we didn't order much). Then my 2 tacos and one of my grandkids meals came. Ten minutes later my other grandkid got her food. 10 minutes later my wife got her meal.
