Aaron and I enjoy getting out in a Big Island Buggy and exploring our little big island. Today we wanted to get out and see some Honu ( sea turtles ) and go on a little hike. We drove down to the harbor and walked down the trail that's parallel to the boat marina. Once we arrived at the beach, we were pleasantly surprised to spot a few Honu right at the waters edge. We continued our walk past the Halau ( Canoe Hut ) and we must have spotted at least 10 Honu eating the sea moss off the lava rocks! We then continued down the beach to the Aimakapa Fish Pond. It was an absolutely beautiful day at Honokohau Beach. A MUST do if you would like to spot some Honu. Please be respectful and stay at least 20 feet away and use that zoom feature on your camera! Read moreThis is an amazing beach for turtle viewing and very calm ocean swimming. There's a shade structure in the middle of the beach - on the right are rocks with lots of cool sea turtles to view. On the left is a sacred area with soft sand that you can enter the water in. Don't try to go into the water from in front of the shade structure because it's really rocky. It's perfect for people who want to actually swim in ocean water because the water is so calm. Read moreHapuna at Mauna Kea Resort is one of my favorite places to hangout with underwater animals in Kona. There's no entrance fee, and it's a very easy short walk to the beach. It has a lot of green turtles swimming around and they are super friendly with humans. It was incredible to watching a school of flying fish that performed a beautiful dance sequence up to the air, and so much more...
