Beware the stir fry “vegetables” and the ONE nasty waitress…. Having been a frequent Big Island visitor, then resident for the past six years, my wife and I have enjoyed this harbor side restaurant and it’s incredible staff for the past 25 years. It had been many, many years since we ordered the stir fry vegetables but My wife anticipated the same lovely offering of broccoli, cauliflower, carrot chunks, onions and peppers that we remembered it fondly from long ago. Imagine our shock with the order came out 95% lettuce and cabbage with a few strands of shredded carrots and a few more peppers. She called our waitress over and the waitress was adamant that that was what it always was, well maybe in her time, My wife explained that it had been many years ago but this was not what was expected and she could not eat this as her entree. The waitress demanded to know she we thought it would be and when suggested broccoli, cauliflower, carrots…. Our waitress said “We don’t have any of those things’, OK. She FINALLY demanded what My wife would like instead and she ordered teriyaki chicken. 40 minutes later another waitress delivered the chicken and the bill. By this time we were both so frustrated that we got a to go box and left. This is NOT the usual experience here, either the food order or the waitress. Just don’t order stir fry unless you want a...
Read moreIf you're looking for basic fried food, this is your spot. There is nothing on this menu that is outstanding to me. Recently I've heard some of my friends say something along the lines of "let's go get a burger at the harbor house". Their burger is alright, but let's be honest, one who is looking for the "Harbor House" would generally be looking for seafood. The seafood selection is quite underwhelming, although I will say that it seems to have gotten somewhat better. Upon recently visiting, I ordered fish & chips, which was made with ono and was quite good. The most recent previous time that I went, the fish & chips was made with a fresh water fish from Vietnam that I have never heard of, and needless to say, I was quite disappointed. The restaurant is generally pretty busy, so maybe side with the masses, but my own personal feeling is that they can do a lot better. The location is great, the establishment needs a renovation. To earn a 5 star review in my opinion means that you need to live up to the expectations that you're creating. In the heart of one of the most incredible fisheries in the world, with access to so much incredible seafood, I'd like to see the Harbor House step their game up to its...
Read moreI live on the neighbor island of Oahu and come back to big island for work and to visit friends. Harbor house is always our meet up spot. My party of 6 including myself arrived around pau hana time 3ish which is busy time so naturally i knew we had to wait. We were quoted 30 mins but got sat in 10 bravo to the hostess she was awesome and very informative when she sat us at our table. I'm used to having the women staff waiting on us but this go around we had Eric M. (He goes by another name but I forgot it thank God I got my receipt LoL) He was awesome answered every question and was prompt with our drinks, food, and whatever else we needed. The food never disappoints we ordered from the specials list and it was all good from the poke nachos to the 1 pound steak, oysters, shrimp shumai. I was hoping for Sashimi but wasn't a special for that day so I went to my go to which is the seared ahi sandwich. The only thing that I disliked about this visit was dogs that were inside the restaurant which made my allergies act up but other than that it was as always a good time.
Thank you harbor house I'll be back...
