Kaua'i Ocean Discovery Center — Attraction in Hawaii

I really want to like this place. Brought my kids here because the auntie lured us in. I donated $10 and we came in only to be sent right out again. First we were asked to take our shoes off, (fine and normal), then she told us to put on booties for like carpet cleaners and I’m gonna tell you my kids want zero to do with that. So that was weird to start. The auntie was vacuuming when we came in which was also weird in the middle of the day. My son doesn’t like loud noises so we almost turned right around. In fact every time we tried to leave she would find a way to get my kids to stay and not listen. Then when my son was jumping up and down in place she told him that was not allowed. My son touched a piece of an outrigger building set with his toe and the woman had to say don’t stand on that, and told him to respect the toys. My son has sensory issues and like to touch things with his toes, he wasn’t standing on them or being disrespectful. My children were all thank you’s and please and even my youngest with sensory issues and is less verbal used his manors. She wouldn’t let me do anything there with my kids, every time I tried to do something with them she took over. When they were reading the wall she was eyeballing us like we were going to destroy the place. She was nice enough to give us a book about a bird that's indigenous to the big island and keep the whale my daughter made up for the day, but it wasn’t very fun. I tried to leave 4 times because I was actually annoyed with the fact that we could only play quietly/silently/inactively/and only with her. I know she could tell I was annoyed and she knew I was trying to leave. She told us to come back but I don’t think we will be. It would be nice to get a real kids museum here with people who are fun as employees there. My son who is 5 that barely talks just wants to build, read, and have a good time. My 7 year old listened best he could and tried his best but still got scolded for nothing really. Not fun and even my kids said no thank you to coming back. The activities are cool enough and the kids liked that part but literally we could do most everything at home with the exception of building outriggers, (small sized toy ones), and learning the name of the parts of the outrigger. My little one found an advertisement in a Kauai magazine for this place. We went and he loved it. It's a small room with activities for the kids. Auntie was so generous and sweet with him. Definitely a little spot to visit. You won't be there more than an hour. It's free, but you can leave a donation. You need to remove your shoes bc the kids plays on the floor and in the carpet.
