College of Southern Nevada Henderson Campus — Attraction in Henderson

I cannot express enough how awful my experience with the College of Southern Nevada has been, especially with the dean and department chair. My family experienced an immense loss with the death of a loved one, and I was in the middle of filing an appeal to get the appropriate accommodations. Instead of receiving compassion or understanding, I was met with callousness and insensitivity.

After submitting my appeal, I waited almost a month to finally hear back. Then, when the dean finally called, he informed me that he wouldn't even consider my case further until I submitted an obituary. Despite already providing him with time-off requests and offering to send a picture of the gravestone, he insisted on an obituary. I tried to explain that in my Iranian culture, we do not do obituaries, but I could share the gravestone picture as proof. His response was appalling: “We live in America, and we celebrate American culture here.”

What a cruel and ignorant thing to say to someone who is grieving. The lack of empathy shown by both the dean and the chair is beyond frustrating. It’s evident that these individuals lack basic human decency. My experience has been a nightmare, and I would not recommend this school to anyone based on how I’ve been treated. I am extremely discouraged. I am moving out to Henderson in a few months from Wi and wanted to continue my education. I researched the website and printed off materials. I called to see if there was additional steps I needed to take for the ADN nursing program (testing etc) I spoke to a male in registration who kept sighing and telling me idk go to the website and finally he put me on hold for 36 minutes and never returned.
