5/25/2026 i’ve been going to Moo through for a while now and I always get the medium milkshake without the whipped cream or cherry. Today the server handed me my milkshake and it was filled to about an inch and a half below the rim. I pointed it out and he said oh well that’s where the whip cream and cherry usually go. I had also ordered a milkshake for my son to bring home, and the server who made that one made it just fine — it was filled to about a quarter an inch below the rim. So I pointed this out and the first server got all grumpy and then he starts talking with one of the female servers and they both look in my direction for some reason and … quite honestly I don’t need this kind of flack. I’m just out to get the size milkshake I paid for, not attitude. If the milkshake is not supposed to be filled up, why would there be plastic bubble lids for the whip cream? Which, again, I don’t order the whipped cream. If on the other hand, I am incorrect and management has asked the servers or at least some of the servers to only fill the milkshake up to one and a half inch below the rim, please let me know. Also, while you’re at it, in general, they don’t mix the milkshakes for long enough. Most of the staff are teenagers and I find that they’re can be some issues in terms of their understanding of customer service. The server who made my son‘s milkshake correctly… He offered to correct mine, and I said — just add a bit of milk because it’s too thick to drink anyway, and when he handed it back to me, it was still an inch and a half below the rim. Bizarre.
Last summer, w 2024: Moo thru makes the best ice cream in the Herndon Reston area and is a lot less commercial than say, Ben & Jerry’s.
The only thing I wish they would change is it does seem like there’s a bit too much sugar in their ice cream. It is noticeably just a bit too sweet. They could knock down the sugar level a bit, and it would still...
Read moreI only give it 2 stars because my kids love the ice cream. If it was for me, I'd give it 1 star. The service was really bad. This was my second time at Moo Thru, and the first time I gave it a pass because anybody can have a bad day. But for the second time, the guy behind the counter has this attitude like you are doing the clients a favor for serving ice cream. It was mid afternoon, like 3:30 pm on a Thursday, not too crowded. There was a table with about 6 people already eating their ice cream, and there were 3 people in front of me. First, I saw how he treated a lady who was asking to try some samples. His face was like damn, another flavor? Then when it was my turn, I made a very simple order, 2 cups 1 scoop, 1 strawberry 1 chocolate chip. Easy, right? Nope. The guy again seems like fuming all the time, gives me two scoops , one of each flavor, only one cup. When I pointed to the mistake, he gave me the right order but almost threw the cups at me. I don't know if the guy is the son of the owner or what but in any case, you should realize that your job is to serve people, and part of your job is to treat people in a pleasant way. You are not doing us a favor, you work for us. And if you don't like that, it's time to change jobs. Besides, I would recommend the owner to enforce some sanitary measures like having the servers wear a hat or a hair net and wear latex gloves. When they lean over to scoop out the ice cream, almost half his body is in the fridge, so hair can go in the ice cream. It didn't seem clean to me. Unfortunately, I won't...
Read moreI love Moo Thru ice cream, and I know that this is opening weekend, but I was disappointed in a lot of things today.
While long lines are to be expected, I don't understand why they are having customers order and then stand around building up more volume on both sides of the store while people wait for their ice cream. Why not have people get their scoops as they order and pay at the end?
Because of the volume of people, not only could I not hear my name, but when I did it took me a while to get through the crowd on the other side. Another customer screamed out my name to get my order, which really bothered and embarrassed me. Your employees need to speak-up or shout out names if that is the way you're going to do things.
They also had "featured flavors" one that said Birthday Cake, but when I ordered it they said it was the same as Cake Batter. Cake Batter and Birthday Cake are two very different flavors. If there isn't a difference then you shouldn't call it something different. It made me feel stupid. If Cake Batter is your monthly flavor then say it's Cake Batter, don't call it Birthday Cake when it isn't different.
Lastly, the store opened at 12pm, closes at 9:30, we got there at 4, more hours are left of them being open than closed, and they were out of so much stuff! They were out of flavors, waffle cones, and some toppings. You have 5 1/2 hours left of opening operation and you're out of a lot of stuff. That always bothers me. I can understand if it was 8pm, but 4? Just seems like some preparation could have...
