“Lake Solitude calm, Dam whispers a tranquil tune, Nature's peace surrounds.”
Also known as Lake Solitude Dam near the Columbia Trail in High Bridge, New Jersey.
Immerse all your senses! Be surrounded by a tranquil and picturesque setting. Listen to the gentle sound of water flowing over the dam creating a thunderous, yet soothing melody that harmonizes with the rustling of leaves in the breeze.
The sight of Lake Solitude, with its waters reflecting the surrounding greenery, is a true feast for the eyes.
As you explore the area and walk along the Columbia Trail that meander through the woods, you will be greeted by the chirping of birds and the occasional rustle of small animals in the underbrush. The air is fresh and invigorating, carrying with it the scent of earth and pine. You can almost taste fresh air, too.
Sit on a bench, and hear the distant sounds of nature all around you. It's a peaceful escape from the chaos of daily life, a place where one can truly connect with the natural world and find solace and rejuvenating energy in its beauty.

Read moreReally beautiful passive recreation space. When you arrive there is a gravel parking lot just off the road with enough parking for 5-6 cars. There is a porta potty off the parking area and a garbage can right near the solitude boat house. Which is really just a covered dock with two benches that face each other. Half the dock is in the sun and half is in the shade.
There is no official path to the falls, but if you follow the sounds with solitude lake on your right you will find it. The area around the falls has a metal fence restricting access to the falls. There is a decent amount of goose poop along the green space since there are dozens of geese in the lake.
There are some unpaved trails that lead along the right side of the lake. I saw a few people walking with their dogs here. This space was a very peaceful place to spend some time during off-peak hours (I visited around 4pm on a Wednesday). I could imagine it being much busier at other times of the day or during...

No swiming by the dam at all. 8-18-2020: The mayor and police have agreed to keep the area closed until it can be determined to be a safe spot for all. There are major new rules on this once unused area. The town is also trying to find out what recreation activities can be had at the upper grass part since there are no facilities located there. 7-20-2020: Due to overcrowding from many other places being closed. The dam, viewing deck and waterways has been closed until the end of summer.
Very beautiful area and nice view of the dam. You can go around the "hill" and view the water from the dam. The 12 car lot is on a 2 lane bumpy road. No facilities, benches or walkways, just a place to stop for a refreshing view. A bike trail and the town's Main St. is just...
