UPDATE: I emailed the Facebook page for this store 4 days ago and got an auto response of: Thanks for messaging us. We try to be as responsive as possible. We'll get back to you soon.
First of all, all the Local Guide reviews are paid reviewers. I bought a tower there and the solid state had to be replaced within warranty a few months after purchase. There were great! I had to pay for labor but the parts were covered. Then I moved to Minnesota and started getting fatal errors again and noticed that the F:\ was in red and nearly completely full (which is what happened the first time from what I understand and destroyed the solid state). I called in from Minnesota and asked if they could help. I got someone on the phone who couldn't find my account and couldn't figure out what kind of machine I had. He had to go to the manager to look up in the "old system." He basically said nothing was covered. I said, but you guys did the partitioning which resolved the problem and now I'm getting fatals again. He said there was nothing he could do and would I like to talk to a manager. I was put on hold and he came back and said the manager told him to tell me the same thing. When I spoke to ROBERT the manager he was super condescending. I asked if someone could just talk to me over the phone to see if its the same problem and what my options would be. He said, "ma'am I know you bought your computer here but we don't do that." He reiterated that I'm not under warranty. I said, I know that I'm asking what my options are for fixing it. He said I had to bring it in (do they take mail in? How would I do that? No options). I said, it sounds like you just want me to go away. I ended the conversation when he said, "Ma'am if I wanted you to go away I would hang up on you." NOICE. I have had good experience with them before but ROBERT was rude and unhelpful. I was a software engineer for 15 years and I wish there were more patience and less arrogance...
Read moreI had them assemble my PC which was a HUGE mistake, for me. If you want a computer that’s one and done, Altex is the perfect place to go but if you want to move cases, upgrade, swap parts, they make it hell.
They put my AIO in a non-optimal spot in the case which has lead to huge headache. This is half my fault as my case was too small and I didn’t specify that I wanted it at the top if it meant not having a back exhaust. But they put this in a non-optimized spot, zip tied all the wire management so tight it’s a struggle for me to swap everything’s myself to a new case, AND they will charge my another 80 to swap AIO locations which shouldn’t have been placed at the front in the first place.
Altex is good if: You don’t plan on upgrading/swapping parts on your own. Their wire management is great but not ideal for future changes You have a big enough case for all the parts you want and where you want them. I recommend having a general layout in mind and talking with them before handing it all over.
Sadly I found this all out the hard way and I would say the $80 assembly was NOT worth it. ALSO do NOT let them INSTALL WINDOWS (unless you have $80 to waste). It is super easy to install windows. They do not need to do it for you. Go home and download...
Read moreTech Mike helped me with a frustrating and nervewracking situation with my computer with great results! Mike is very knowledgeable - no question I asked stumped him, and he provided a workable resolution for the situation and a "care plan" for my computer that I can easily do. Mike is a true service provider - he was calm, professional, helpful, positive-minded and friendly, which was greatly appreciated (and especially because my peace of mind has been restored regarding my computer). Thanks, Mike!! I have always been impressed with the knowledge and skills of the technicians at Altex, and the very reasonable technician service rates. I highly recommend Altex as THE go-to source of computer equipment and for computer service.
Most recently, Senior Tech Eric replaced drives in the computer he built for me a few years ago. The computer was working fine, but I wanted a "new and better" system for longevity so, among other things, I upgraded to a Solid State Drive for the main drive at Eric's suggestion. I am super-happy with the results! The computer works at "speed of light" relative to prior speed - and now I can work so much faster! I can't say enough good things about Eric (he really knows computers!) and Altex - thanks for the super...
