Disappointing lighthouse and location to visit while on vacation. Lighthouse is in a gated community inside a gated resort. Only residents can leave the gated community through the semi-manned gated to the public streets. Visitors are trapped in the community going from gate to gate till you hit the right one that we rats can exit... Not my way to spend 30-40 frustrating minutes of my precious time. Glad we are only staying 2 night in this town on our road trip. Picturesque and relaxing if you own property here or have a time share. Not so fun...

The lighthouse is in a gated community, but you can get a free pass to get in. You have to go through multiple gates to get to the lighthouse and then have to take a different route to get out.

The lighthouse appears to be maintained solely as a historical landmark. The public cannot enter the building itself and the surrounding trees are so tall that they prevent getting a clear picture from a distance.

Given the difficulty accessing the area and the minimal public interaction, this lighthouse is probably only of interest to true lighthouse...

Couldn't access/turned away. Followed the instructions on the website and requested access at the main guard house on Queens Folly. Guard said you are not allowed to access from that location. He said to go to the next road (Queens Way) and enter from there. At the guard house on Queens Way the guard said to you are not allowed to access from that location. She said to go to the next road (Queens Folly). Both guards were pretty unpleasant...

Amazing history hidden in the corner of an upscale golf community. Permission and a guest pass required at the get. Make sure you have ID. I rode my bike in and the experience was very pleasurable. Beautiful homes and a pretty amazing looking golf course. The old lighthouse was the draw but I was also very pleased with the gigantic and very old live Oak tree at the same location. A somewhat hidden gem on the island.

A beautiful lighthouse to visit on Hilton Head Island. It was confusing getting to it because you have to ask permission to get into private neighborhoods through gates. Theirs a lot of history to read about so take your time and read up on the story about what happened to the lighthouse keeper. The huge oak is an awesome sight to see as well!

It is neat and unique. I wish it was a Lighthouse you could walk to the top of but still awesome. It is in a gated community and directions to it are confusing especially if you are not from this area. You have to go through several gates and each one gives you different information.
