Madre & Mercado — Restaurant in Hilton Head Island

Madre and Mercado has quickly become our new go-to spot on Hilton Head Island! The ambiance is warm and inviting, with beautiful decor that makes you feel right at home. We started with the chips, guacamole and salsa, which were incredibly fresh and delicious. The shrimp fajitas were outstanding, featuring plenty of succulent shrimp cooked to perfection, served with fresh vegetables, black beans, and rice, along with warm tortillas. The Madres Tazon was equally impressive, offering a delightful blend of flavors and textures. Had high hopes as I heard this place was different, not a Mexican type restaurant. The good: beautifully decorated. The food was very good. The bad: The hostess clearly hated her job. I’m amazed how many restaurants don’t see the host or hostess makes the first impression on their establishment. There were only 2 occupied tables in the entire restaurant yet we were seated next to a bookcase in the back corner by the bathrooms. The server didn’t acknowledge us. He just showed up after 10 minutes and asked what we wanted to order. We ordered 2 appetizers and 2 tiny margaritas. Including tip it was $82. Sorry but it wasn’t different or special...

The food is some of the best. Beautiful decor and amazing food. I hope they can hire some more staff because this place is a true gem. The gentleman was amazing who waited on us, but I could tell he was overworked with all his tables and bartending. The hostess and others were truly the nicest staff. A great experience and hopefully they can grow...
