Visited Runnings today in Homer Glen with my Fiancee for their opening day. We had always gone to the store and had no problems when it was Big R and R and P Home and Harvest and we were very excited to go to Runnings. I was looking forward to seeing the chicks since they're in season, and my Fiancee was looking forward to the new gun department. My Fiancee has also bought two guns and a thousand plus rounds of ammo from the store under the previous two names over the past few years and had a good experience. We were having a great experience until we got to the gun department... A nice lady at the counter noticed my Fiancee looking at guns in the case, and asked if he would like to see anything. He said yes, she checked his FOID, gave him the gun. Usual stuff. Another younger guy working there was talking to my Fiancee about the gun, and said that if he wanted to test the trigger on the gun to do that towards the floor behind the counter. My Fiancee tested the trigger pull once the way the worker said to, when this other worker helping another customer said to him in a very rude tone "One trigger pull only. These are my guns and until you buy them, you do what I say." My Fiancee had already had the gun cocked for a second trigger pull after the guy said something to him, so instead of handing the gun back to the lady cocked when he was done with it, he pulled the trigger to hand it back to her. Once that happened, the other worker walked over to him, ripped the gun out of his hand and yelled "You're done. I told you not to do it, and you did it immediately. You're very ignorant. These are MY GUNS and you have to do what I SAY. I will never sell you a gun now get out of here." After he said that, I looked around the counters for signs and I did not see a single one stating a "one trigger pull" rule. Words in this review are not enough to express how extremely disappointed I am with this store. If there were signs posted fine, but I did not see a single sign. The worker wasn't even helping us. He stopped helping another customer to yell at my Fiancee. I have never seen poorer customer service and basic human decency in my entire life. We spoke to another worker and assistant manger about the experience. They were very sorry and said they would speak to his manager about the situation. They also mentioned that the guy is part time, does this as a post-retirement job, and the days he works to we can avoid him. I think that if a solution to a problem worker is to tell the customer to not go into the store when he's working, then maybe you should reconsider that employee. I also think that someone who is a part time employee has no right to say the guns are "his" when in fact, they belong to Runnings, not him. This incident happened hours ago and I still cannot get over the disrespect my Fiancee and I experienced. We were so excited for this store to open just to be treated that way. The only reason I am giving the review two stars instead of one is because of the assistant manager and other worker that listened to us. Even though every other department of the store was fine, theres a slim chance I will ever be returning to this store.
EDIT: adding to a review made by L G. Whether my fiancée did it once, twice (which is what he did), three times or a million times that does not give the worker any reason to disrespectfully talk to a customer that way. A fact I have known ever since I was a small child - Treat others the way you want to be treated. Sounds to me, L G, that you still have a lot of growing up to do if you don’t understand that rule by missing the big picture of my review and defending the way the worker spoke to customers. I’m getting the feeling that you were the worker who treated my fiancée that way, and you’re mad that you were confronted by a manager about your poor behavior. L G; have a nice day, God Bless you, and go...
Read moreThe store is clean with a nice selection. That's about it. There are some serious areas in need of improvement. 1.) Returning an item from a BOPIS (buy online, pick-up in store) order should not be so complicated. I ordred from this location and picked up in store, and needed to return one item. Not only was I restricted to certain days/hours to make the return, but it also required store staff to make outbound calls to process/approve this return because they use purchase orders instead of barcodes. It's 2024. Upgrade your system. 2.) The employees were also not very knowledgeable or pleasant. One employee was actually arguing with a customer in front of me over the pricing on a sign. The sign listed a lower price, and the register rang up much higher, so the customer naturally inquired about this. The cashier basically told the customer that's not his fault/issue, and whatever it rings up is what the price is. What...? Lol. Thankfully another employee/manager (with tattoos) was nearby and overheard that conversation, and told the cashier that the sign/adverised pricing is correct - and that this type of pricing issue should never be argued about with a customer. The advertised price is what the customer expects. If the price is wrong, then take the sign down! It's not rocket science. 3.) Listening to other employees complaining that they "shouldn't even be here right now" and that they're only there because they only have a couple hundred dollars to their name. Save that complaining for the break room. We all have our problems, but sharing that type of negativity in front of customers is not appropriate. Hopefully they make improvements to become a...
Read more9/10. This is the ideal sporting goods store if you are in the south or southwest suburbs. Pricing for firearms or ammunition is the cheapest in the area and extremely competitive for brand new firearms especially when Black Friday and other discount sales come around. You won’t get new stuff for cheaper anywhere else. Not sure what the new policy is now but they used to have a price matching policy that helps get the price down. The amount of ammo they have is the same as any big box retailer if you are looking for something specific. I believe they offer transfers for $40 but you have to call them in advance to tell them where to send their license information to as they are not on the gunbroker network - they do not offer consignment however
I would rate 10/10 but they are extremely fastidious regarding “straw purchases” - more so than any other gun shop. Almost to a suspicious, paranoid extent. My advice? If you’re going to shop for a firearm here, come alone. Go to a smaller shop if you’re going to bring a friend or partner. Also some of the sales reps get a kick out of denying somebody the ability to purchase a gun and ruining their day. If you go there to purchase a firearm, ask for Benjamin, not Brandon. The rule of thumb is the older the sales rep, the less pleasant of an experience you will have. However most of the sales reps are pleasant and a joy...
