We were in Hawaii to get married this past March and were looking for truly unique experiences to add to our visit. My new spouse loves to cook so I agreed to attend one of the classes mostly as an observer.
We arrived about a quarter to the appointed time and waited in the driveway with Bacon, the pig. Two women went up the stairs and were stopped by a gentleman that responded we were all "too early... much too early." 15 minutes didn't seem much or even slightly early but who's to say.
We met the rest of the students and began to learn Hawaiian cooking from Ms. Linda. She was very thorough and informative and helped some of the students with each step. At one point my partner/spouse asked a question. She didn't answer the question but asked ; Who is this with you, your father?
There is an age difference but I was very embarrassed by the question. It seemed passive aggressive but this might be unintended on her part.
When we sat down to eat we were not joined by Ms. Linda which seemed counter to other reviews. Maybe she was too busy to engage with our group. One woman asked what we were doing in Hawaii and my now spouse told the group we were there to get married that Saturday. They all congratulated us and wished us the best in the future. The girl sitting next to me leaned over and whispered to me that she didn't think I looked like my partners father at all. She was very sweet.
Overall, we enjoyed the class and have attempted some of the plates we learned about. My only area of concern is that if you invite people into your home for a class, make them feel welcome. Place a notice at the bottom of the stairs to wait until asked before passing by the pig. And try to show a little more tact when asking very personal questions in front of a group. We did a cooking class in Merida, MX last summer and the housewife that taught the class welcomed us without any questions.
We love learning about local customs and food when we travel so we did learn new things about the beautiful people and...

Read moreI went as part of a group of four and we were in a total class size of nine people. It was a lovely group and a fantastic class on Asian fusion with Hawaiian Style. Linda was personable, knowledgeable, fun, and incredibly thoughtful regarding dietary restrictions. She made the class safe and engaging for all levels of cooking knowledge and competency. She taught us all some useful tips and tricks on how to remedy common kitchen mishaps as well as provided information regarding the local cuisine and markets in Hawaii. The menu that was curated by Linda worked well together as a whole and everything was delicious at the end. Her home and kitchen are beautiful, spacious, and clean. There were five very sweet chihuahuas and one very cute teacup pig. I do not have a single negative thing to say about this experience andmy group of four left happy and grateful for this experience. We are only sad we live too far away to enjoy another class with Linda again anytime soon. Thank you so much to Linda and her beautiful...
