The Lookout is great and all, but to get the best experience, find the secret cave, about 100m to the north of the Lookout. We Love this secret place. You park at the Lookout, cross the highway, head north to a non-descript bridge/overpass, scramble down the non-ocean side of the bridge to a small tunnel (there is a spray painted arrow on the bridge pointing the way). The tunnel is not very tall, so if you are 74" like me, prepare to duck a bit and bring a flashlight as the tunnel has a lot of "potholes."
Not many tourists go here because it is not the typical Waikiki/Honolulu/east side beaches thing. A word of caution, it is also a bit dangerous to get to as you have to cross the highway, then parallel to the highway. Once you pop out of the cave, you can climb down the cliff to the water's edge but be careful and not get to close. A rogue wave could easily pull you into the water and no one is going to get...
Read moreStopped here as this, as I was told, was a prime spot for seeing whales breach as it's the passing way for whales between the islands. I was actually lucky enough to capture a whale breaching it's fin as there will be a series of pictures I've attached that show this feat! There are also a few pictures of blow hole spouts.
Parking is iffy as spots are limited. Oftentimes, it's treacherous trying to get out of the parking lot especially if you're heading west as there is limited visibility to your east. May take a few minutes to execute your turn but it beats getting broadsided or going over the ditch edge on opposite side of road... You'll have a helluva time getting outta that one!
The Lookout has great scenery, beautiful dark blue waters and weathered cliffs facing the ocean. Not too far southwest of this spot, there is the Kahauloa Cove, as marked on...
Read moreWow—what an unforgettable journey along the south coast of Oʻahu on my rented moped! The sun was warm, the cool Hawaiian breeze kept me refreshed, and the entire ride was pure bliss. I found myself stopping often just to soak in the breathtaking views.
The route itself was magical, passing iconic spots like Diamond Head and Hanauma Bay, with the sparkling Pacific stretching endlessly beside me. Adding to the experience were the exotic cars cruising along the same scenic roads—it felt like a dream.
Reaching Lanaʻi Lookout, I was rewarded with panoramic vistas that perfectly capped off the adventure. This is a budget-friendly yet truly luxurious experience, and I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Hawaiʻi. The weather was perfect on this day and the cool ocean breeze felt perfect. It was a little dangerous on my rental moped but I would definitely...
