This place is nice for hikes and to hang at a beach that isn’t very crowded. They have a place for chess tournaments. There were a lot of folks playing frisbee golf. The only reason I give a 4 star is because all the structures are just rotting away including the bathrooms. They have set up port a potties outside these amazingly built bathrooms. It’s sad to see the funding isn’t there to fix some of the stuff that’s broken at this park. Not much shade unless you sit under the chess pavilion. Also this place makes you want to look up it’s history as it has this layout that is so strange and old building. There’s a thing called the sand park stop and it looks like a bench for a train platform. There’s random huge cement blocks in the way some of the paths and huge boulders around others. I need to find out why because most those were just so odd and so outta place.
Definitely would suggest for...
Read moreI've been using Google earth to find locations to take my son fishing, being from Kona I am totally clueless on Oahu. He just got into this summer and I wanted to take him some place safe. Sand Island beach is pretty awesome! The park itself has a lot of parking and space. The campsite is in good shape and it's pretty clean. The little beach is nice with water moving freely through the 3 break walls. The surf spot looks fun and easy to get to. My son had a blast fishing today. Too bad I lost my wallet in the break wall, I was taking it out of my back pocket when my son bumped into my hand. So if you find a Rick & Wallet on the Ewa side of the little beach in the break wall please let me know. I gave it only 4 stars because I didn't get to see the whole area, but from what I did see...
Read moreThis is one of our favorite "secret" spots. It's pretty deep into sand island, and might be considered out of the way, depending on where you are living/staying. The low wake spot is housed around the bed, looking toward the ocean. There are wave blockers and plenty of sand glass washes up on that shore. It's a decent place to snorkel, and as far as I know isn't normally inhabited by sharks. A little further down the road, decent waves hit the surf on the beach that is normally used heavily by the natives. This spot is usually inhabited by homeless, so if you're worried about your car, this might not be the...
