Hot Springs, NC Welcome Center — Attraction in Hot Springs

Stopped by the visitor center to see if we could get information on hikes nearby. Cell service in town is spotty at best so it was difficult to form a plan. There's a big map outside of the visitor center showing the area and surrounding hikes, etc. It would have been nice if there was an employee to actually speak to. But there were printouts of nearby hikes with some rough directions. There were plenty of brochures of attractions nearby as well but I didn't pay a lot of...

Wanted to stop to learn more about the history in area, left feeling very unsafe. The worker made many jokes about trapping people in the basement so they can never leave. Stood between the door and the sign in book asking people to sign in blood. When we finally got to the door he told us to consider ourselves lucky because we made it out. This is not a safe place especially for women...

Very nice welcome/visitors center, lots of interesting information about Hot Springs and Madison County. Hot Springs is a beautiful little town, but if you don't drink alcoholic beverages and/or don't want to be around it do not come here. There are several taverns and restaurants that cater to alcohol.
