I’m going to have to agree with other reviewers on several points. I had been looking forward to this experience for about a decade. I finally booked a signature tub with some friends to relax after a hike. There seem to be two ladies who handle the phones. One is incredibly friendly, patient and accommodating. The other leaves the impression that she really doesn’t want to be there.
There are numerous Hot Springs Resort signs on both sides of the road, but where to turn for the office isn’t very clear (the sign saying check in at the office is at a different driveway. The correct driveway has white fencing and no mention of the office).
TUBS First off, the deck area was fantastic and the view was beautiful. Unfortunately, you can only see the river from two seats in the tub unless you stand up or sit on the deck.
I absolutely agree that the tubs only get warm, not hot. One lady in my group mentioned that right away and it was disappointing.
The soak is not for 90 minutes, which seems implied by their write up on the website. You get use of the whole area for 90 minutes, including changing clothes. That really leaves no time to enjoy the deck and fire bowl.
They knocked to give us the 5-minute warning, but like others mentioned, the water immediately begins draining so it’s less of a warning that your tub experience is coming to an end and more like “get out now.” The attendant knocked two more times while the other three ladies in our group were finishing up getting dressed. For a place built on relaxation, rushing us to vacate the building while changing clothes snapped us right out of that feeling.
They need to make it clear that your tub time doesn’t allow for drying off and changing clothes, even in the signature tub where a shower and changing area are provided. We never even got to use the shower.
You basically have 70 minutes to enjoy everything. It’s just not going to happen. For $180, it was underwhelming, especially when we all drove 3-5 hours each way for...
Read moreLove, love, love relaxing in the rejuvenating jacuzzi tubs here. Reserve a private tub enclosure overlooking the river, grab your honey and snuggle and soak your aches and cares away. I recommend getting one of the premium tubs because the view is nicer.
Not to sound all hippy-dippy, but I really do believe the minerals in the water here have healing properties. My husband has lots of joint issues and always leaves feeling much better than when he got in. I personally leave feeling as relaxed as jello. Coming to Hot Springs for a weekend is one of my very favorite romantic, chill out trips.
At the spa, You’ll park out front and go into the main building to check in for your reservation time. The desk attendant will send you out back where another attendant will point you in the direction of your particular tub enclosure. There are interesting “ruins” of the original historic spa around the property.
You get an hour or an hour and a half depending on what you reserved and the attendant will come to the exterior of your enclosure and let you know when you have 10 minutes to go. They don’t come all the way in and interrupt your privacy.
If you come during cold weather (my favorite time to soak!) the premium enclosures have heat lamps which are really nice to turn on when you’re getting out into the cold to dry off at the end of your visit. Our most recent visit here was in mid-March, just before spring, so it was pretty chilly in the evening once the sun went down.
Don’t forget to bring your own towel - that’s not included.
I give the spa four stars because, although the experience of soaking is wonderful, the staff are always a bit brusque as you check in and get settled.
Regardless, this is one of those unique experiences you can’t find in many places and it’s so worth it. If you’re considering trying it out, I really can’t recommend the tubs any...
Read moreThis review is based solely on the 5 hot-tub experiences I have had here, the facilities, the personnel and the surrounding aesthetics. HSRS is set in a great location right on the edge of town next to the river, and built around the ruins of the old bath house, which you can see and experience in the inner courtyard. It is very historical/rustic meets semi-classy/out-dated modern, you definitely get that feeling when you pull into the gravel driveway/parking lot and walk inside the main building to see a resort level spa with fashionably dressed personnel. In contrast to the spa, if you come for the hot-tubs, after checking in with reception, you will be directed to the back door which leads to the inner courtyard of the ruins, the fire pit/hot tub check-in, bathrooms/changing rooms and the hot tubs on the edge of the river. There you will find the bathrooms just to the left of the fire pit, lazily cleaned, dirty and out-dated, the hot-tub personnel at the fire pit sitting around chatting, dressed like trail guides who will walk you to your hot-tub. Your hot-tub time starts from your set appointment time, no matter what time you actually get to your tub and I do recommend making an appointment, because there is no guarantee that they will have a tub opening any time soon if you just walk in, 5 minutes before your time ends you will get a knock from the outside, a verbal "5 minutes." and the tub jets will be turned off and the tub will start draining immediately. While in the tub, you can relax and be assured of total privacy, it is a wonderful experience, having the tub all to yourself by the river to enjoy however you choose, you can smoke, enjoy your company to the fullest pleasure and whatever else you bring in your bag with you...like I said, total privacy. I have not experienced any of the other amenities they have to offer other than...
