If you are contemplating moving into Gateway on Cullen, read these reviews first. I HIGHLY suggest reading the reviews and ignoring any positive reviews because they are all bribed with gift cards that they will never receive. I have lived at Gateway for almost two years now, and before I moved in I saw all of the negative reviews and ignored them mistakenly. I moved here into my first apartment with such high hopes because Gateway has SO much potential to be such a good apartment complex since it’s fairly new. I am APPALLED by the management “staff” that’s what like two maybe three people including the manager now since everybody quits. It is embarrassing how much common sense, decency, and respect the staff lacks. I moved into my one bedroom this year because my first experience in a four bedroom was downright awful with random roommates, so much so that it affected my grades my first semester at UH when I’m usually an Honor Roll/Dean’s list student. First of all, when I moved into my one bedroom not even a month after, the staff was assigning apartments to people moving in for the next semester and assigned MY apartment away after I had just signed a new lease. I had to practically beg for them not to and finally was told they’d just move the other person somewhere else (they cared more about the new resident coming in than a paying resident they currently had.) I started ordering packages to my new apartment and soon realized I didn’t have a mailbox at all for some reason and lost a good amount of money because the staff lost or misplaced my packages. I cannot even think back to how many times that has happened and of course they had nothing to say or nothing they could do about it but blame other people. Not long after I moved into the one bedroom, I noticed my neighbor I share my living room wall with had a sound system with bass and they would blare music all hours of the night. I have complained to the staff AND corporate about this since October and they’ve promised they’ll find out which apartment it’s coming from and fine them the $500 fine, it is now December and my neighbor is still blaring music and I’ve resorted to just calling the cops now because Gateway is useless. The residents here are also awful. The complex constantly smells like weed, people are so loud at all hours of the night, and people will bang on your door at 2 or 3 AM when they get home and think it’s so funny. The behavior is just so unnecessary. Not to mention, the complex is FILTHY all the time. The stairwells are covered in trash bags, there’s pet pee and feces all over the hallways, the elevator is always broken or disgustingly dirty, and the study rooms and lounge area always has old food or trash all over the place. You would think my rent alone (over $1,000 closer to $2,000) could afford for Gateway to get a cleaning service. Gateway has also been overcharging me every single month (over $100) for my electric bill when I do everything the same I’ve done since I moved in and wasn’t getting overcharged. When I asked for a printout months ago of my statement to prove I wasn’t using much electricity of course I never got the printout but guess who’s still being overcharged every month. Lastly, the staff is downright rude and disrespectful. I cannot even tell you how many times I’ve been in the office and have been talked to unprofessionally, they have absolutely no customer service skills and will even complain about other residents to you. The parking situation is a disgrace. This semester I have a reserved spot but people steal my spot all the time and aren’t towed for it. Guest parking is awful, and multiple friends of mine have been towed even with passes and had to pay over $200. Please do not move here. My college experience would have been so different if I chose not to move here and I hope you read this and choose a better living situation for yourself. If you’re thinking of living here and have doubts or questions message me because it is NOT worth it and I would do anything to make sure you don’t make the...
Read moreI’ve been out of this place for a year now and I’m ready to tell my testimony lol. I will say, the people up front are really kind and nice and so is maintenance. I don’t think the issue with the place is them, it’s the tenants. So let’s start shall we? When I moved in, the entire unit was filthy! The tub was dirty, there were pots, pans, and laundry detergent left in the cabinets from the last tenant. There were hangers left in the closet etc. I decided these were “minor” and cleaned it up myself since it seemed (after talking with some neighbors) that no one unit was clean. (Side note: they gave us move in times yet EVERYBODY and they mama LITERALLY were moving at the same time, like nobody listens or reads and clearly they didn’t care- I would’ve told them to come another day bc they backed up the whole day) Mind you, I’m a VERY clean person so my unit always stayed clean. Months later, while my boyfriend was over, he comes running out the restroom saying “a rat just ran across my foot!” I wish I knew then how to get out of the lease- i just left and stayed with my mom for a while and still paid rent ( I know, dumb.) I came back after they placed mouse traps everywhere and not one but three mice were found. One day the maintenance man (he’s really cool) came to my door to fix something and wanted to throw away his trash. I didn’t have a trash can so he said “I’ll get you one.” He comes back a couple hours later with a trash can that already had a bag and I was grateful. Well when the bag got full, I took the trash out but I kept smelling this HORRID smell (after I JUST took the trash out) well I look in the trash can, and what’s in there? A broken light bulb and a dead rat. The elevator was broken A lot and the people there were literally so nasty! The elevator always had liquid on the ground and the ground and stairs were gross. They seemed to only have one maintenance man so of course he couldn’t maintain the whole grounds when all these people are literally treating the place like their personal trash. One day I came out to my car and got ready to go to the store, couldn’t. Why? One of my tires were slashed. I never knew anyone in the area let alone my complex so ….ok. Couple months later, I leave my place to go to church, wheres my car? Gone. Stolen. But don’t they have security? Yes. LOL this place is like the nicest place in Hell if you ask me. If you get a tour, ask to see building 3. The front is clean but THE BACK??? I’ve seen guys shooting at each other, people’s cars broken into…at all times. Those security guards are there for aesthetics and they don’t seem legit plenty. But anyway, lease at your own risk. I wish I could’ve legally gotten out of the lease given the circumstances. I only gave them 2 stars and not 1 because one time I needed help opening my door because I locked myself. The lady who was working the front (which I don’t think she actually worked there lol) offered help. She locked up the front and took literally 30 minutes to find my apartment. The complex has 3 buildings and I told her to meet me at the front of building 3😂😂 that’s how I figured she didn’t work there. I went back up to find her and she was sweating and told me she couldn’t find it. I literally had to give someone who works at an apartment complex with THREE buildings, directions to the third building😂😂😂😂 there’s only one way there and back...
Read moreThis is the worst student living I’ve ever experienced! I’ve been living here since 2021 and have seen property management and leasing staff change 10+ times in the course of 2 years. Not to mention, they do not notify residents when a new manager is over the property. This is extremely inconvenient as a resident because new rules are put in place with little to late notice and they do not abide by promises or address concerns that have been in place by previous managers. My emails regarding various concerns have been ignored for months and when I tried to speak to the manager(s)face to face, he likes to act as if he’s too busy to address me. This has happened on several occasions and I felt as if I did not matter. The front gate has been broken for the majority of my residency which has led to an abundance of break ins and vehicle thefts including my own and my visitors. My visitors feel extremely uncomfortable with visiting me as gateway has failed to address these concerns after multiple emails and office visits have been sent notifying them. On top of this, I have had my own car as well as my visitors car towed due to technological faults in their parking app. I was told that I would be compensated but have never received compensation. They are quick to charge residents fees that are listed in the lease but do not take accountability for their own actions. I’ve felt taken advantage of on multiple occasions. Security has not been on property for months. The emergency line does not work if you are locked out of your unit after office hours or if you have any issues after office hours. As far as maintenance they are quick to assist, however my dryer has been broke for 5+ months and the office never replaced it. I’ve been forced to do laundry else where as this has become a huge inconvenience. I’ve also requested pest control for the last 3 months due to a roach infestation that became worst during the warmer months, however they never came and sprayed. Due to my discomfort, I had to fog and spray my own unit, no longer utilize my kitchen/cook in my unit, and can no longer store food or cooking ware in my kitchen cabinets. Residents also do not pick up behind their pets as feces are always in the hallway or in the lawn area. Residents also leave their trash in the hallways which brings rodents and bugs. My unit was also dirty upon move in and had cosmetic damage from the previous residents. The complex is advertised as student housing, however all residents are not students. Elevators are always way broken and study rooms are inaccessible after office hours. I wanted to break my lease on several occasions due to my discomfort, false advertising, and safety however I could not afford to pay rent for those remaining months at a complex i no longer lived at nor could I find someone to take over my lease(yes this is your responsibility). I should have left in 2022 however I was promised big changes for the complex as it was the cheapest option for a student at the time. Overall, I am dissatisfied with my experience living here, feel taken advantage of us a student, and do not feel safe calling this a home. 0/10, would...
