The lack of awareness and attitude towards my situation will never bring me back here. I come in (on a tight schedule), do everything I need to do on the computer and send my document off to print. At my local library, the printed items come out of the front cubicle and I pay there. I did not know where the printer was so I asked; first interaction sent me in the direction I needed (eventually). After looking at the printer station I asked the same worker, a direct question, "Is the minimum for the printer $x"

She responded, "Well, because you ran off before I could explain, this is how it works"

She takes me through everything I've already done. "So you go over to a computer, log in with you library card, print what you need....... Now over here is our printer station. You'll select your document and swipe your card. Now it will put a hold on your account [etc]"

I stopped her, "Will it be minimum x amount?"

She continues, "it'll take x amount from you [etc]

All I was trying to do was print off a resume for a job interview I needed to be at time sensitively. I asked her very direct questions and she wanted to treat me like I'm either 5 years old or 85. I'm 26. A young adult just out here making things work. These experiences...

A follow-up update (6/27/2022): The new passport arrived in my mail box in a month or so while the old passport was returned in another 3 weeks. So the turnaround was not bad at all.

(3/14/2022) I love the passport service offered here! My daughter’s passport as a minor expired and she needs to apply for a new one as adult. Appointment at all locations is booked out during the Spring break. I was lucky to get a spot at this place on Monday. Never been there - not near my neighborhood. To my surprise, the facility is decent and clean, located in a pretty quiet area, not as how I imagined about Bellaire within I-610. We arrived about 10 minutes earlier and there was no waiting. The guy named Ray took care of our application. He’s professional and proficient. He explains everything clearly. It took about 10 minutes for him to review and finish up the form we filled in advance. The whole process cost less than 15 minutes - straightforward. Thanks to the staff who helped with this! They are all nice and friendly.

Tip: Do good home work and fill the form(s) in advance per instruction - minimize the work on the scene. Run the checklist and bring the required documents. Then the process will be...

I guess library etiquette has changed with the generations. This library is by no means quiet. I have visited this library three times since it is 6 mins from where I live(very convenient). Each visit I've resorted to having to play musical tables to avoid people with no library etiquette or courtesy. Today it was a man watching a video on his phone with no headphones. A lady on the phone searching for a book talking to a person about her day. The 3rd time I moved was because someone was using speech to text with their phone in addition to a mother and her child talking in their normal voice about casual everyday things. What happened to using your quiet voice, headphones, or perhaps taking the call outside? It seems to have an area for kids but most adults with their kids don't seem to want that side since it is definitely louder. Probably a good library if you have children but definitely not if you're trying to get some serious studying in. Time to find a new study place even if it's more driving time . If you own noise canceling headphones it may work out but I'm not sure how effective noise canceling headphones would be. I don't own any to advise 100% try at your own risk of...

I have not been to this location in quite some time and I was happy to see that it's still in the contending to be my favorite library in the Houston metro area. If there is legitimately a better one than this, please let me know. Staff are really friendly and helpful. I had such a struggle trying to get the barcode on my card to scan and was told by the woman working the desk that the trick is to angle it away from me. Don't just lay it flat on the surface of the counter under the scanner. I wish they had more audiobooks, but maybe the era of DVDs and physical media is gone and I'm in the minority. They have great services too! Help make Houston's next generation literate lovers of literature and take them to your local library y'all. Also, great place to get your passport.

Great library overall! Came here to get some studying done. Looks there are a lot of books. There are lots of cool props and designs laid out on the walls and ceiling. There are lots of open tables and computers which makes it easy to study. Only issue is that the internet was very spotty. On their wifi, there was difficulty connecting and when it did connect, it was spotty and disconnected or slowed down at times. Great place for relaxed studying but I'd be careful about internet intensive activities. Staff was friendly though and took time to come to my table and answer questions/ concerns. Overall still a great study spot.
