Officially called The National United States Armed Forces Museum, this is neither national or a Museum. They do have a large collection of military vehicles, well sometimes. I'll explain, the vehicles are constantly changing because most vehicles are privately owned and are stored there for members or are there for repairs. You have to take an incredibly long tour, and if you are unlucky enough; you'll get stuck with someone who is full of crazy conspiracy theories more interested in hearing themselves talk rather than conducting a tour. It's HOT, the cool stuff, like tanks and armor are outside in the blazing heat. This is not family friendly in any way shape or form. It would be great for 1 parent and an older kid, but not the family as they will be incredibly bored and hot. You get the sense that they don't want you there, and are only tolerating you to keep their 501 (c) 3 charity status. It is hard to find, trust me, you'll drive right by this place as it looks like any other building on Wallisville, 'cept for the couple military trucks you can see from the road. BUT, if you are alone or with your eldest son, it is worth checking out, just don't touch or stand too close...
Read moreI am extremely grateful and respectful of our military and those whom have sacrificed much for our freedom. I took my 13 year-old son to this museum because of his love and enthusiasm of history, especially of WWI and WWII. They have a great display of artifacts, memorabilia, and military equipment (much of which is still operational). Our tour guide had some interesting facts. The disappointment was that he rambled on for over an hour while we all stood restlessly in a small room waiting to go see the rest of the museum. Then, we finally got to go to the large equipment display (the main attraction) only to have to stand in one spot for another long lecture after lecture. We only got to see about half of the main display because I only planned for two hours. You can only look at the displays with a guide. Be prepared to get long lectures between every point of interest. To those who run the museum, it would be an improvement if you allowed people to tour the displays on their own and simply be available...
Read more(Revising for 2022) TL;DR: This museum is great for enthusiasts, just knock on the door if it's locked, and hold the expectation of following a tour guide.
This museum is an amazing collection, being both a private and public collection at the same time. The problem with this lies in the fact that you're constantly kept on a leash. The Museum itself is in a poor location, and on top of this, the guides aren't always the best with kids. This museum has a lot of problems, but a lot of other reviews seem to give flak for it being a "force guided tour", when the museum itself doesn't want to be liable for children getting hurt on armor, or a truck, or someone stealing parts off of something. There's a large amount of rare and obscure militaria here, and to be frank, this museum is quite of a rare breed. Not many museums actually specialize in what they're for. Many museums water themselves down, sometimes to a detriment. But this one stays true to the original goal, and preserves military...
