Raindrop Turkish House in Houston is a cultural gem! I discovered this place while driving on W Bellfort Ave. The building is modeled after the combination of Taj Mahal, Turkey’s Mevlana Museum and the Maiden’s Tower in Istanbul. The white-marble, domed building was constructed in 2008.
It houses a non-profit social and cultural organization "Raindrop Foundation" - founded by Turkish people in Houston, Texas in 2000. The organization maintains friendship and unique services between the Turkic and American communities. Other than Texas, The organization operates in another seven states (AR, KS, OK, MS, NM, TN, and LA).
On the premise, there is a mosque, a two storied school with classrooms and gymnasium, soccer field, a tennis court, a peace garden, a big parking lot and an Event Center "Turquoise Center" made of travertine which was constructed in 2010. The event center has a large ballroom and a lobby that displays Turkish artifacts like traditional Ottoman ceramics, calligraphy artwork and Ebru — the Turkish art of marbling.
Various events are arranged here to showcase Turkish heritage, i.e. Rumi poetry, soulful Sufi music, dervish Sama performance, Intercultural dialog dinners, annual Turkic Cultures and Children’s Festival, annual Turkish Language Olympiad and Intercultural Trips to Turkey.
Raindrop also offers educational services such as Turkish and English classes, Turkish Cuisine Cooking classes, music classes, seminars and international conferences. Raindrop also helps those in need through its charity organization called “Helping Hands.”

Read moreI was lucky enough to be welcomed at the Raindrop Turkish House last night for a great event, the launch of a refugee women's catering initiative. It was my first visit to this stunning building and found it intriguing and beautiful. I didn't know such a place existed in Houston but am so glad to have found it. I hope to return again soon :)
UPDATE: I visited again and it was just as lovely as the first time. This visit was for the Nowruz (New Year) festival, held in March, and we had the most wonderful day. Again, we were welcomed over and over by friendly people and the festival was so much fun. We enjoyed food from a variety of nations (Turkey, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, etc), listened to music, drank tea, and enjoyed the facilities. Definitely want to...
