My partner and I were staying in town over the Fourth of July and no restaurants were open except the country club which two people referred us to. We got there at 8:30 and they said they stopped serving at nine. They seated us outside and it was a beautiful place with a beautiful view. We ordered it as fast as we could and didnât order any cocktails just water. My mushroom burger with sautĂ©ed onions, medium, rare, came out as a bacon cheeseburger with tomatoes on a well done hamburger. I couldnât send it back because by then it was too late and they werenât serving food anymore. We were almost done eating when a gentleman came out with a couple servers, and they were clearing off another table and he said it would be nice if everybody was leaving to go watch the fireworks hint hint. We got the message paid our bill and started to leave. However, there were still many people sitting at the bar, enjoying their time and in the other room outside the restaurant area there were still many people enjoying their beverages. I donât understand why we couldnât stay and enjoy the view instead of being shoved out like we were. I was very disappointed. We were supposed to go to dinner there Saturday night with a few other couples because it was highly recommended but we decided to cancel our reservation and just stay in town. My partner goes back to that area every year, but he also said that he probably wouldnât bother going back to the country...
Read moreAfter a long day driving around the Black Hills area and Devil's Tower, my wife and I wanted to get a steak. So, we drove up to Hulett and gave the 77 Steakhouse a try. Beautiful drive up and an even more spectacular view from the golf club back towards Devil's Tower.
The restaurant interior is very nice, and the staff was friendly and helpful with questions. My wife ordered a house salad and a NY strip. I ordered the elk tenderloin but was told that at the time, they were only serving the bison. A bit disappointed but I decided I'd give it a try. The salads were good, but the steaks were a bit disappointing. The menu states the bison is "rubbed with our signature coffee spice blend for deep, earthy richness and a hint of smoky sweetness". I didn't get any of that. The meat was cooked very well. Very tender and tasted good. I just didn't get anything special from it. The NY strip was also cooked perfectly. It just tasted bland. Very little seasoning. It might just be that we're used to a nice salt and pepper crust on steaks here in Texas, but for the $55 price tag on the strip, I expected at least a 1" thick steak, not the half inch thick steak she received.
All said, we took a chance, and the experience was enjoyable but just wasn't what we expected given the price of the meal.
The bartender deserves 5 stars for the best Old Fashioned...
Read moreThe food was good, however the restaurant and staff didn't seem to be prepared in a lot of ways. They were out of some of the food on the menu, and out of certain ingredients for a drink. They couldn't find a lighter to light candles on our table for our staff xmas party we were there for. They didnt have any music or TVs going at the time....so when we asked they initially couldn't get the TVs to work. Then when they got one to work they didnt have any music channels to turn to and play it that way. Even though the food was good as I said before....they really need to get it together for there customers especially the local ones because the winter season is when it's much slower, and you HAVE to count on your locals for support when you don't have tournaments and it's not the golfing season anymore. ...
