My fiance and I enjoy taking the kids here. There's the park for them to play, paths for us to walk, a basketball court. There's Sunken Gardens just below, you can walk down and see the fish in the water. We've had my StepDaughter's Birthday party here. They have a pavilion at the top of the park for parties. That's also where the bathrooms are located. They put a tennis court up there as well. There's spots on the trail where you can go fishing & catch some small fish. In the winter they'll put hay at the end of the road so the kids can slay in the snow going down the hill. They also set up Sunken Gardens with Christmas lightings & decorations for the town to come walk & enjoy seeing what creations they came up with decorating it, year after year! We also have a tank & plane the has been there for many years, although they did end up moving it to another area of the park when they decided to do some updates, especially to the kids play equipment, but they'd have service member's names wrote in areas around them so the kids could come learn something about our history. It's a great park in Huntington to visit, especially around Christmas. I've also known a few people that has taken their vows together either down in Sunken Gardens or further back where the small ponds of water & flowers are. Then after their wedding they would decide to have their receptions up in the pavilion at the top of the hill. I assisted in some community service & helped keep the parks clean by picking up trash & reporting any issues with anything that may have gotten broken or possibly jad some teens that would make their marks, my fiance would help me with it as often as she could after her FT job which took a lot of time away from her so we wouldn't get much time together so when she could we would do this together, which was so nice & we always left smiling seeing all that we had achieved. I'd have to say Sunken Gardens & Memorial Park park area I'd do my best at keeping it as clean as I could get it, we when she was able to help, we put so much effort & attention into our work. It's is one of our best parks in...
Read moreI love this place as a small part of memorial park with a couple ponds that have fish in them and a bridge that crosses one of the ponds. It also has a nice gazebo and alot of weddings happen in sunken gardens and because of this I would LOVE to be able to give 5stars as my review instead of 3 but I can't in good conscience because the ponds are not very well taken care of and need alot more "cleaning" attention!!! Both the grounds and gazebo are very well maintained but I am very sad to say that the ponds both in sunken gardens and in upper memorial park are either forgotten or if they are just plain neglected but all of the ponds are very, very nasty and need alot of attention and tlc!!! It...
Read moreWe went here on a whim while visiting from out of town, unfortunately there was a wedding going on so we couldn't enjoy the public space as we would've preferred but we still got to walk around and admire the views a bit. I tried getting pictures without the wedding guests in them out of respect for them (congrats, what a beautiful place for a wedding!)... But we're hoping next time we go that we'll be able to enjoy it ourselves too. It's such a beautiful area and well maintained. Excited to go back some day when we're...
