There are five major things that the I.R.W.D. enforces to keep our water safe. Here they are;
The first process that my city accomplishes is safeguarding cross-connections. If any company, person, or group is found to have potentially, or actually, distorted the flow of the water supply, they are immediately rebuked and required to remove or replace the jeopardizing mechanism. The second process that my city accomplishes is that it requires approved backflow prevention assemblies for any in-ground sprinkler system. These parts are quite expensive, ranging from several hundred to several thousand dollars, but the Irvine Company is willing to “take a hit” for the safety of our community. The third process that my city accomplishes is that it demands considerable safety systems to be put in place when providing livestock water. Interestingly, horses use the same water system that we use to drink, so in uncontrolled cross-connections between the water system and the horse's bowl, germs from the horse can infiltrate the water system. The Irvine’s Water District clearly states that properly filtration systems and air gaps must be put in place, to avoid any sickness spreading through the water system. The fourth process that my city accomplishesis that it equips the help of my county's health care agency to test all 17,000 of its backflow prevention assemblies. Wow! The fifth and final process that my city accomplishes is that it takes authority to stop any backflow situation from happening. When they feel that the water system is in jeopardy, whether or not there is a law in the books about that particular issue, they take the initiative to require approved backflow prevention assemblies to be put in place. Again, these state-of-the-art mechanisms prevent backflow from ever happening. I would like to thank my city for all they do to protect our water supply. They allow the residents of Irvine to drink water, from their fridge, or even from their sink, without...
