I genuinely wish that giving Belhaven University no stars would be an option. I graduated from Belhaven in May of 2020 during the pandemic. Through graduation I was employed by a large church. I decided to continue my degree with Belhaven into a Masters program. I paid every cent of my bachelors on time and I never had an account hold or anything.
Due to the PANDEMIC I suffered a job loss TWO weeks into my first and only class towards my Masters degree. It was literally only the Intro to Masters Program Class. I called Belhaven and told them I needed to drop the course due to hardship. NOT because the course was hard or that I had poor time management. I LOST MY JOB DUE TO A GLOBAL PANDEMIC.
I’ve continued on the job hunt and finally found a possibly job but I needed my transcript to show I graduated with a high GPA. I went onto Blazenet and saw that I had a financial hold and was unable to access my undergraduate transcript. I called the school and they transferred me to the registrars office who then transferred me to financial aid services. I was told that I could make an appeal with the registrars office. I was transferred back. They told me only the financial aid office would be able to assist. Back and forth we went for over an hour until they finally put a ticket in for my request. I was anxious because I have a job on the line.
Fast forward to the next day - not a soul has called me back. I call and I am told by financial services that there isn’t anything they can do. The total was over $1000. I asked if I could make a payment plan and put something down then to access my transcript they refused - I was told I needed to pay the full amount FROM A MASTERS CLASS TO ACCESS A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT DEGREES TRANSCRIPT.
A CLASS I TOOK FOR TWO DAYS AND HAD TO DROP DUE TO A GLOBAL PANDEMIC JOB LOSS.
I explained that I did not have a job and needed my transcript to get a job in order to pay the full amount. I didn’t even need the official the unofficial would do just fine. They refused and told me there was nothing they could do to hardship assist me. I was crying and begging for them to help me. Finding a job in the pandemic has been hard enough but adding this hurdle financially was paralyzing. They couldn’t have cared less.
As a Christian University I am unbelievably disappointed with the lack of compassion that was shown. I am appalled at the lack of professionalism. I would have loved to continue my Masters at Belhaven but honestly I refuse to contribute anymore money to a University that cares more about a financial situation than the well-being and success of...
Read moreAs a Christian parent I have done enormous research into Christian Colleges and Universities for my soon to graduate High School daughter. After narrowing our list of Colleges we traveled to visit some of these Christian Colleges and Belhaven University was incredibly unique. The positive aspects of the university culture there are hard to describe, you have to experience it but there is a sense of cohesion and intentionality in the place that is quite out of the ordinary. It is a place where students are loved and genuinely cared for and where there is a strong sense of looking at students not only as scholars but also as image bearers of God and therefore to be gently discipled in the Christian faith. The sense of academic and Christian community there, among students, faculty and administrators is palpable and strong. Being a small school helps and students are actually known. The campus is peaceful, charming, beautiful and incredibly pleasing to walk around. The buildings are superb and the landscaping, trees, flowers and bushes are kept in a lovely way. There is a southern charm to the place and aesthetically is very easy on the eyes. The professors and members of administration we met were engaging, thoughtful, creative, smart and you could see a genuine love for Christ and for their work. The academics are of a high standard and it is a strong Christian liberal arts school with a faculty and academic curriculum that is unapologetically and solidly Christian. Because the school is rated highly in the Arts, it attracts a lot of fun, creative, bright and nice crowd on students. Nevertheless, Belhaven is academically strong in all the academic disciplines they offer, not just the arts. If I could be a student there, I would run there. The life of community at Belhaven seems to be transformational and my daughter, although she has not made a final decision yet, loved the school and is on her list of her top two choices. May God bless Belhaven for decades to come. Christian parents and students need such a place. Even if my daughter chose not to go there, I will recommend Belhaven University to Christian parents and students for...
Read moreBelhaven University is THE college to attend for young Christian artists. I'm a senior now and about to graduate with a BFA in Creative Writing. My experience here over the past four years has been life-changing. The environment of academic excellence, the bold and fun artistic spirit, and the strong Christian core in the faculty and student body made Belhaven a clear choice for me, and I haven't been disappointed.
This is the place I learned the craft of writing. Here, I learned to be a leader among my peers and a devoted disciple of Christ. I even learned what it means to love a woman well (I'm engaged to be married in June), but that's more of a personal experience. The campus environment of Belhaven is upbeat and friendly. The professors are personal and devoted not only to their teaching, but to their students' lives as a whole. Also, God is here. His presence is unmistakable here, as are his blessings.
If you're a young artist who desires to grow in your art and in the Lord, come to Belhaven, at least for a visit. The college experience is something every student should take seriously. Belhaven is not a perfect fit for everyone, but it can be a good fit for many....
