Great place well planned and maintained. Their appreciation for Scouts BSA made our Troops stay seem extra special. While we know that LBJ was an Eagle Scout we were worried that the staff would be reluctant with a girls Troop but they were fantastic and the Scout House at the camping area felt just like our home Scout House not perfect, but nice with just enough for our Scouts to go through and do a little work to show their appreciation for the Park, Museum and Staff as all good Scouts should do. My only quibble is with parking but the location really doesn't lend itself to better parking at the Scout House. However at the visitor center and park the parking is fabulous with more than ample room it was a great rest after a tough backpacking trip for our Scouts to unwind and recover even if just...
Read moreThere is something historically thrilling about visiting a president's residence - especially someone as dynamic as LBJ. I was never an LBJ fan during his term and what I've learned about him since is not in the least appealing but none the less, I enjoyed the tour.
The ranch is now owned and managed by the National Park Service and park rangers give guided tours of the ranch house and facilities. The ranger my group had was spectacular and did one of the best impersonations of LBJ I've ever seen. He actually had one of our party (who volunteered) shaking in his boots and ready to vote on any bill the...
Read moreLBJ State Park has good walking trails to get some exercise. The trails are mainly comprised of crushed red granite. Round trip walking from the parking lot going to furthest tips of LBJ park and back to the beginning is about 3 miles. Most of it is level and open without trees which can be pretty hot in the Summer Texas sun if you're not used to it. I use sunscreen and a large brimmed hat. A smaller portion of the trails is covered with native trees and grapevines. Scenic points of interest include the statue of LBJ, Long horn cattle, bison, pioneer cabins, and wildflowers when there...
