Always a nice place to go. Right now they are remodeling the inside of the house so there are no tours of the house only of the grounds. Was told that it may be up to two years before they open the house again. You still can see the movie and take pictures and share the ground so it's a pretty nice experience it will be a lot better when the house opens up. Of course it was a beautiful day and we enjoyed the pedernales River and just the feeling of knowing that the president and his wife love this property and walk this ground. It is still a working ranch so some of it is blocked off. You get to see one of his planes and some of his cars especially the one that is an amphibian and he used to scare people like crazy when he we're driving to the Dallas with it. He was quite a jokester and you can just feel his presence when you're there. Highly recommended place to go. Very reasonably priced when you can go into the house. This place is very reasonable tutor and I think that was because President Johnson wanted it that way. Makes you feel close to him his wife the great lady bird and his two daughters....
Read moreOh my goodness--this place is a hidden gem of a park! LBJ was president during some of the most interesting moments in US history, including civil rights and the Vietnam War. Regardless of your feelings about the man, this place is a great visit if you'd like to see natural Texas Oaks in open field, or the meadows of wildflowers championed by environmentalist, Lady Bird Johnson.
Even though interior tours of the Texas Whitehouse are closed for the next few years due to renovation, you can still check out the one-room schoolhouse, the amphicar (an amphibious town car!), Air-Force 1/2 (lol--at least LBJ had a sense of humor), and other sites kept in excellent care. We liked the free autotour through the ranch most of all.
Mid June was an incredibly hot time of year to visit, but the flowers are in full bloom, the lawns a healthy green, and the trees just as lovely. It's a great place for picture taking. As a tip, there are some well-stocked, air conditioned bathrooms (with bottle fillers) located in the building just behind LBJ's...
Read moreThis lovely little park is not overly large and is the conjoined sibling to the national heritage site that was Lyndon B Johnson’s home and preferred “White House” for conducting business. Everything was beautifully maintained. This visitors center was full, clean, lots of snack , drink and food options, and free! We enjoyed birding and checking out the historical sites in an environment designed for mostly drinking alcohol this was a sober and lovely experience. Highly recommend for those that enjoy history , historical insight, camaraderie, ample space, and gentle walks. Personally we were there to do a little bird watching as there had been report of a pair of bald eagles and a rare all white wild turkey. While we saw neither, we enjoyed seeing the historical Hereford bulls and cows, the birds of prey, the well maintained plaques, and the easy to follow directions. Would love to return in the spring and see the infamous wildflower fields that Lady Bird Johnson so adamantly wanted to be...
