It's called a living history museum and it really is! You can get a very good idea of what life was like back during this time period. Plus, there are people dressed in authentic period clothing that will answer any questions that you might have. Such a wonderful experience! We loved all the farm animals especially the turkeys. I had never been up close to one before, and they have the most amazing little sounds beside their gobble! We had parked in the visitor center and walked to the farmhouse. It is a short walk through the woods from there. We toured the house and the barn and saw the HUGE okra that was grown in their garden and the MASSIVE sweet potato. Read moreThe people there, were so nice. Loving to share stories, ideas, how to, explaining. The house and facilities are showing life on the farm, in 1900's. Pay attention to the thickness of the walls, magazines of Sears and Roebuck house purchases. High ceilings, transoms over the doors, no plumbing or electricity, check out porch and breezeway ceilings, (no bees nests or spiders, how is that possible you ask, sky blue paint color). Check out two seater outhouse. I could tell that the period dressed reinactors loved their work and enjoyed sharing. Make sure you check out the chandler that lowers and raises in complete balance. These kinds of actual museum type examples will probably be gone in 50 years. It seems like people don't really care about our...
Read moreWhat a great place to step back in time. This little farm reminds me of my great grandmother's farm. Docents are on hand to answer your questions or to explain what they are demonstrating. Enjoy watching the free range chickens and turkeys prance around the cow lot, pig pen, barn, black smith shop, smoke house and garden. Docents prepare their meals using items grown or raised on the farm so be sure to tour the house especially the kitchen. Do you know how they survived without a refrigerator?
Take a hike around the farm to see deer, buffalo, longhorn cattle, native plants and wildlife. Then head to the front porch to rest in the...
