Let me tell you about our experience. Of course this is the worst possible scenario but it CAN happen, especially since there are a lot known thieves in the area of this bike shop. We rented the bikes for the whole week, it was very nice. The bikes weren't excellent by any means but they let us ride to see the beautiful views. Halfway through the week we woke up to my husband's bike stolen from our condo (the front desk told us that it had never happened at the condo we were staying in before). They were LOCKED on the condo bike rack by the lock provided by the bike rental shop. We went up to the bike shop to let them know the situation and as soon as we could. From the moment that we let the owner know we felt as if the owner was making it out to be our fault and that it was all on us. There was absolutely no professionalism in this situation and it was not handled well at all. She told us that the bike that was stolen (not because of our neglect) would cost $215 to replace and that we were responsible. This bike was a cheap beach cruiser that my husband said was MAYBE worth $40. She told us that it had "modified" and "specialized" handlebars that were worth $70.. She then told us that the police would not help and we would have better luck finding the bike on our own. Yes, that's exactly what I want to do on my Hawaii vacay, look for a bike thief that cut through YOUR cheap bike lock. She told us she would cut us a deal and we could go buy a bike from the grocery store (yes, they sell beach cruisers there) for $100 and she would then just charge us $70 for these "specialized handlebars". What a joke. My husband and I felt very mistreated and that the situation was unfairly handled. We called and filed a police report regardless of what the owner said of them being helpless. By the grace of God, the police found our bike! The owner was shocked when we told her and of course started to celebrate... To sum up this review, sure the bikes were cheaper than other rental places on the island but I can guarantee you will get better customer service and empathy elsewhere in the horrible situation that your bike is stolen. (it happens more than you would think on the island because there is a rather high homeless and drug activity) DO NOT RENT from this very...
Read moreI was so pleased with our rental experience today! I was ecstatic to find e-bikes to rent with a child seat to take on the Kapaa bike path. I looked the last two years we were here for a rental with a child seat and not a pull-behind trailer or something (my son would hate it) and always came up empty. Turns out Hele just got child seats for the e-bikes this year - YAY! I called ahead to confirm our 4 year-old would still fit the seat and then booked online for the afternoon. They called me immediately upon booking to confirm details. Upon arrival, everything was straightforward and easy. The ride itself was total bliss. Absolutely gorgeous scenery. We locked up with the locks they provided and walked the tree tunnel and the path to Donkey beach. We also had time to stop for Shaved Ice. My son’s first and he inhaled it! We were all smiles the whole ride and made such amazing memories. What a blissful turn-around from the meltdowns we had yesterday! Can’t wait to do it again! Many thanks to Franny who was SO generous with our son! She made his day and we are so grateful for...
Read moreMy review is for during COVID times. Nobody in my group wanted to go, so I decided to go by myself. They only have two available times to make reservations. I made a reservation for 11 o’clock at around 9:30 AM. Because I had all my stuff with me and I had a reservation, I was the first one allowed in the door, even though there were other groups in front of me. Everyone working on staff was efficient and courteous. I got a single speed bike plus a lock for just under $17. The bike had a little carrying pouch for my phone, wallet, and water bottle. I was on my way by 10:48. I rode down to Pono Kai resort to show off my bike to the people in my group. I then rode the path North until the very end of the pavement. The sun was beating down and I was really thankful to have worn sunscreen, and brought juice and water. I stopped at a couple of spots to take some photos and read a few interpretive signs. I was out for just over an hour. I think in the end, I probably had a better time not having anybody with me. I definitely recommend this activity and would absolutely...
