Read moreI’m so grateful that my child has a place like the Lions Special Needs Park to go to. Just having access to a space designed for children with disabilities means the world to families like mine.
But it’s incredibly frustrating when parents make no effort to teach their kids to be mindful and respectful of the space or the children it was built for. This park isn’t just a fun option it’s a necessary space for kids with disabilities who have very few places where they feel safe, included, and accommodated.
The adaptive swings are often taken. There’s a large sign hanging on the fence right before you enter the park that explains how the equipment is meant to support children with special needs. Yet despite that, many parents still allow their children to use every part of it without consideration.
It’s not about keeping anyone out. it’s about making sure the children this park was specifically built for aren’t pushed aside. Parents need to do better at guiding their children and using these moments as teaching opportunities because inclusion requires effort, not just access.
Also, the five point harness swings are a wonderful idea, but they’re often tangled up, which makes it really difficult to secure children safely specially for those who really need the support. Something that’s meant to make playtime easier shouldn’t become a struggle every...
Read moreUse to love this place it was always packed but fun! Idk what they changed recently but now you can’t bring in food in a cooler anymore. This is really new because we just came 3 weeks ago and they didn’t have that rule. Obviously it’s because they want you to buy their over priced concession food and spend more money. Even though you use to pay a cooler fee so it still makes no sense. So instead of enjoying a long day we had to leave so our kids could eat food and not junk from a concession stand. You can tell it’s hurt business because it was dead today on a sunny Saturday in July. Apart from that the slides were half broken too the toddler slides were hot as heck because the sprayers weren’t working so parents were having to throw water on it before their kids went down. Two bigger slides were also broke so guess where all the teenagers were trying to use..the toddler slides. Lifeguards didn’t stop them until I said something after my 3 year old got trampled by a prepubescent teenage group.
Really use to love this place but that no cooler rule is gonna be a deal breaker for us because I refuse to stand in a giant line for $8 dollar nachos and $5 dollar lemonade. Also the bathroom are disgusting but that’s not new, I’ve simply always...
