09/15/24: The Spartan Race (Sprint) took place at the Bear Mountain portion of Killington, VT. This obstacle 5k race had 20 obstacles right on the side of the mountain. The Spartan Beast and Ultra took place a day prior. There were plenty of parking at the lot when we went; however, the lot was full at one point and people had to park at a different location and took the shuttle to the race area. There were tents to check in at. At this race, I was a spectator with my children; toddlers were free but it was $30 for me.
There were vendor tents, a food truck, and food/drinks inside the ski lodge, for purchase. We purchased hot dogs and a corn dog and it was expensive. There were many photo ops for the Spartans; a stage and a DJ was onsite. There was a coaching station; you can rope climb and throw spears there. My husband and some family ran this race and they said it was super hard due to the incline. As a spectator, there weren't many areas to sit (except for inside) and it was very sunny out. However, I was able to find a shaded spot in a grassy area while we waited for our family to finish the race. They had a Spartan Kids race as well. There were plenty of porta potties which was much appreciated.
After the Spartans finishes the race, they are given a shirt and medal. There are drinks and bananas for them at the end too. I've done a Spartan sprint in Florida before so I am a big fan of the race. This landscape definitely seems more challenging than the very flat landscape in Florida. I'm in the process of training for it again and look forward to...
Read moreThis was the worst spartan experience I have ever had. Starting at the introduction where the emcee bragged that ~50% wouldn't finish the days race. We finished, but barely
This race was a joke and is a far cry from what Spartan trifectas were all about when my team started in 2015.
~1/3rd of participants were not able to finish. Of the remaining, about half decided to just skip some obstacles, because they were so frustrated at what the race as become. Many of which had done this race in the past, and could only describe in disappointment how awful this years race was.
Two of the shuttles ran out of gas, because for some reason the Venue doesn't know how to use a gas gauge. So we stood out in the cold waiting to get back to our parking lot.
There were a lot of angry people we crossed the finish line with, that were claiming they will not do another race again. A few folks we were talking with took the gondola down at mile 7 because they said that it wasn't even worth continuing.
This is not the same race series that I have multiple trifectas with, and it's a shame, they lost me and my team...
Read moreI was a Saturday full day volunteer and a Mom spectator on Sunday. This was my first experience at a Spartan race, and I could not find enough words to express how much the participants inspired and impressed me! I saw perseverance, strength, humility, humor, honesty, community, and my favorite, above all else, kindness. Although these were all athletes there to essentially compete in some manner, their support and admiration for one another made them more family than competitors. I hope I was a loud, proud, and positive voice for the men and women who were racing a race, as I told them, they should only race against themselves! Kudos to the absolutely remarkable event staff on all that you do to pull off these events! A huge shout out to our personal escort, Bishop! You were fantastic and truly one of the best parts of...
