The park was established in 1957. In the year of 1987 it was placed on the National Historical Register. This particular park has a locomotive that was retired in 1953 Named the Sante Fe #3759 which was donated to the City of Kingman. This was due to the rich history this city has with all of the railroads.
February 1955 there was a special request from the Railway Club of So-Cal for an excursion dubbed the Farewell to Steam at which #3759 was brought back to life briefly for one last ride. After this ride it sat in storage until it was donated to the city.
In 1987 the caboose was retired and donated to the City of Kingman and to be connected to #3759. The residents rallied together during this time to pull the locomotive forward 30ft to make room for the caboose. Talk about a town that believes in community spirit and pride!!!!
There are several benches thru-out. No dogs are allowed in the park. There are several signs posted about this. Currently it is decorated for the holiday season.
Would thoroughly recommend - pricing is free, you are able to climb aboard and check it out through just the middle. Lots of lush green grass and great places to just sit and relax...
Read moreSpent several hours at the park feeding the birds. The old locomotive is absolutely gigantic. I had a great picnic lunch, and watched all the cars and motorcycles cruising down Old route 66 !!! I can't wait to go back to Kingman, and if you go to Kingman. You have to go to Oatman also. I can't believe that was the main route to travel on, especially going thru that mountain pass !!! If you don't pay close attention, you may find yourself at the bottom of some ravine !!! Great time road...
