Retro Fitness — Attraction in Lacey Township

I’ve been a retro fitness membership for over a decade now and have always experienced good customer service, and even worked at the retro in Neptune Township for two years as a personal trainer and front desk employee. I visited this gym and within 10 minutes, was accused by the owner of having disrespected his employees while he’s yelling and cursing at me kicking me out of the gym with no explanation for what I did wrong. It wasn’t until I was so emotionally distraught and through my hands up, trying to de-escalate the situation that he even explained to he was, and that he was the owner of the gym. Not apologizing for any of his miscommunication or false accusations. He claimed that I had disrespected his employees which was completely untrue. The only thing that had happened from the time I had entered to when he started yelling at me was scanning in my past and acknowledging the employee at the front desk with a smile. After I finally get back to the front desk, I asked the employee what the issue was why she felt disrespected, or what I did to upset her. She denies everything and asks if I want to buy a daily pass. this is without doubt the worst behavior I’ve ever seen by any employee at a retro, especially for it to be the owner of the gym himself. I left feeling disrespected and missed treated for no reason so I tried to call back 20 minutes later being the bigger person to explain the situation and they said the owner would call me back later that night when I left my phone number and first and last name with them. They still have to call me back or even apologize for what they’ve done. without a doubt, the worst industry I have ever been to not recommend this gym for anyone unless if you want to leave feeling verbally abused for absolutely no reason. I go every morning at 4am, thats is why i use this gym. Its never open on time and its almost always dirty in the morning. If you get lucky the bathroom might be clean. The gym floor is always cluttered from the night before and never are the weights put away. The equipment is ok nothing new or standout, it gets the job done. I have been going here a long time now and I have to say the only reason I still do; is its convenient. This place should just be a key card gym, because that is the service you get in the morning and at least with a key card gym its open when you get there. The service is better in the late afternoon till later in the day but it gets so packed with people and stupid kids talking on their phones its impossible to get a good workout until after 7pm. If you weight train the times to work out are early in the morning's and late in the nights. But if you want a place that has good service or with people that talk to forget this place. In the last year I might have got a hello or any eye contact once maybe twice and i go there almost everyday Monday thru Friday and Sunday. Its for people that know how to train with no frills equipment and free weights. There is absolutely nothing special or standout about this gym except the women have told me the group...

The gym has gone from bad to worse since the new owners took over. They got rid of the wipes and went to disinfect spray (99.99% water) and cheap paper towels. The new equipment is nice but its thrown in the already tiny space they have and everything is right on top of each other. People refuse to rerack their weights, leave weights up stairs and don't care about the equipment. There are several regulars who refuse to wipe down their equipment and the gym has been filthy lately....(empty water bottles, rolled up paper towels, garbage there first thing in the morning (so that means the night crew couldn't care less) and I refuse to use the bathroom. When a large number of your members are unhappy maybe listen to them. But when the landlord is a scumbag and the owners don't care....why would the employees care. Such a shame...its cool I'll transfer my membership to Bayville (it seems to be happening more).

when people from Lacey and Toms River are switching their home base gym to Bayville…..maybe owners should take the hint*

STILL SUPER HAPPY AT THE BAYVILLE LOCATION AND WORTH THE EXTRA 8-10 MINUTES...
