🚨 PLEASE SHARE 🚨 SHARE!!!!! My Experience with Discrimination, Harassment, and Bullying at Delta College (Lafayette, LA)
I am sharing this not just for myself, but for others who might be silently suffering or considering this school. Since June, I’ve experienced consistent discrimination, targeting, harassment, and retaliation from staff at Delta College in Lafayette, specifically in the daytime nursing program. What I’ve endured has impacted my mental health, my ability to learn, and my overall wellbeing.
Here’s what I’ve gone through: I was written up for allegedly “being a bully.” When I asked for details, who I bullied, what I said, what I did, no one could answer. I refused to accept a label that is not of my character and wrote that on the write up. Next: I went to the restroom, only to find the door locked after I entered. Two other students had gone before me without any issue. When another student asked the teacher why the door was locked on me, the teacher coldly responded, “It’s none of your concern. I then went to the office and expressed I felt targeted. The coordinator’s assistant retrieved my belongings and suggested I speak with the teacher. I waited until class ended and approached the teacher to express how I felt. Instead of understanding, she twisted the conversation into a claim that I called her class boring, which I did not! The next day, the administration came in to class with text messages that was sent to the teacher & IMMEDIATELY thought that it was me, so they spoke out in class stating they knew who it was and stated that the person would be dismissed from the program. I was written up again for allegedly calling her class boring. Even after explaining what really happened, the coordinator sided with the teacher. I felt defeated and signed the write-up just to be done with it. They did not ask me about the text messages however I dont handle my business like that. When I voiced that I was being unfairly targeted, the coordinator told me flat out, “I’m never going to go against my teachers even if they’re wrong.” And That says everything about the staff and the environment! I also wrote a complaint to the PRESIDENT of the school. And the coordinator at delta told me “he’s just gonna send it to me.” I was also singled out with a seating arrangement that placed me right next to the teacher, while this was not enforced for most students. When i asked questions in class the teacher turns up her face as if im bothering her! Two friday’s ago i found out that this same teacher was stalking my Facebook. I screen-recorded it for proof and blocked her without confrontation. They also say lil slick stuff in class...

Today, I was written up for yawning. Yes, yawning. It was claimed that I “disrupted class” by yawning loudly, but no one else heard it. When I asked for proof or for someone to ask my classmates, I was shut down and told “they’re going to do what they want.” This is a very HOSTILE environment where students are treated like trash. Let’s not forget MAJORITY of the class is blacks.
As a Black woman, I have never felt more unsupported or emotionally drained in a learning environment. I attended this same program at night before and had a completely different experience. But during the day? It’s a different world. There is clearly bias, prejudice, and a toxic culture of control and intimidation. Especially toward those of us who are smart, outspoken, and refuse to be mistreated.
How are we, as future nurses, supposed to advocate for patients when we are punished for standing up for ourselves?
This has been one of the most discouraging experiences of my life. I’ve cried nearly every day. My mental health is suffering, and I no longer feel safe or supported at this school, so TODAY i decided to withdraw from their program. The constant targeting daily has made me doubt my own self like is this really something that i want to put up with to become a nurse.
To any student considering Delta College in Lafayette: BE AWARE. If you’re a strong Black woman who knows your worth and speaks up, this is not be the environment for you.
To Delta College: Your staff needs to be held accountable. Your students...
Read moreI do not recommend this place of business. I received the WORST experience the whole time there. On my very last class, they totally dropped the ball where management and teachers totally fell apart. But other then letting a director go, the only ones that suffered were the students. I tried to reach out to them with no help at all from them. The Baton Rouge facility did not interact with me or want to meet face to face. I was just expected to return and complete the semester again even though I felt like they did me a complete disservice. There is currently no way to process student grievances past Delta College leaving them with full power over any problems you may have, but I am working on making the world better for students who get stuck with inadequate colleges. I would recommend you save...
