A truly serene walk around a mirror lake with views to the mountains, sounds of nature, and the occasional jumping of fish from the water. Totaling about 1.2 miles, this gravel and DG pathway is very flat, and an easy walk for those looking to have a quick outing.
Dogs are welcome on leash (bags are provided at kiosks along the way) and you may need to yield to the occasional cyclist. Fishing is allowed by permit, and the lake is stocked with large and small mouth bass, crappie, and trout. Make sure to stop by the Greenlee wildlife preserve at the NW end of the park or continue on the secondary paths to the serenity of the surrounding neighborhoods. It can be quite congested in the afternoons, but well worth the trouble.
People with children can enjoy the playground and grassy park complete with shelters available by permit from the county. Summertime offers concerts in the park, and paddle boat rentals from the boat house. Regrettably, neither dogs, nor people are allowed to wade, swim, or otherwise come into contact...
Read moreBeautiful lake with 1.2 mile encircling path. Path is both paved and dirt and features exercise stations ever .4 miles or so. There is also a nice playground and smallish playing fields. The lake boathouse rents out paddleboats in the summer months and frequently hosts live music and movie night events. There is also a 9? hole frisbee golf course.
Fishing is allowed and I don't recall seeing any signs about size limits for keepers. It is stocked twice? a year but it's hit pretty hard by the locals so by late June / early August there's very little in there. In the past I've caught large and smallmouth bass, walleye, trout, and bluegill. I've seen a carp as well as a few monster snapping turtles. There's a nice rocky dam to shore fish from; no boats are allowed in the lake.
Really nice local park with super friendly people. I come here often.
Oh, and sunsets are absolutely amazing over the water from the east side...
Read moreWe love Waneka Lake Park! There is something for everyone to do throughout the park. If you have smaller kids, check out the playground near the west entrance. Lots of fun structures for kids to crawl around on and lots of slides. The kids have loved it for years. Near the playground is also the boat house, where during the summer you can rent paddle boats of various shapes and sizes. I think the biggest seat up to 6. Other things to check out include the trail around the lake, fitness course with activities like rope climb and monkey bars and really fun Frisbee course! It's nice to spend time next to some water in Colorado. I see people fishing, but I'm not sure there is a lot of catching. Enjoy the park....
